Hello, again my fellow readers! I’m back again with our weekly weekend Unboxing and First Impressions segment and today is a very special day for me here because finally, I have the MG MSZ-010 ZZ Gundam Ver.K.A to unbox and review!
I have been looking forward to building this one up, and I have been as far as not watching or reading any reviews and impressions from others because I want to be surprised with what I will find when I finally have this wonderful kit. Even when we were penning a few of the Let’s Talk Gunpla that highlighted the MG ZZ Gundam Ver.K.A (and its P-Bandai extension parts and variants) I try my very best not to read too much into it. I was really doing my best to keep my knowledge of the kit as little as I could.
Honestly, it wasn’t an easy task.
Regardless I’m glad now that I made that effort to avoid spoilers because what a kit this is. The very first thing that greeted me is the look and feel of the box, looking at the CG made by Katoki Hajime is as good as ever and in keeping with the tradition of the MG Ver.K.A box arts, they maintain the simple look of the box art. The simplicity of it doesn’t mean that the box is plain as fuck, oh no, the boxart here showcases the gimmicks and the final look (although in CG form) of the ZZ Gundam. It is honestly something that we can trust the Ver.K,A to be able to deliver on, but to what extent is something for me to discover as I go into this MG kit.
Honestly, really what a looker this kit is, I really love the reimagined ZZ Gundam look here.
The best part is really when I have the box opened for the first time, the smell, the colors and the details is what that greeted me, I had to take a moment to just soak all of that glorious plastic smell in before moving forward. After spending a bit smelling the new fresh plastic smell I moved on by looking at all of the runner parts for this kit and just by looking at the runner parts, they brought tears to this Mediocre Gunpla Builder eyes, all the colors and how well made the parts were too much for me to behold. MG runner parts have always been excellent but for some reason, I feel this Ver.k.A runner parts are something of a work of art.
Maybe I’m getting ahead of myself here but I could say that this kit is worth getting by the looks of the runner parts alone if I may be so frank on this matter. Ha-ha.
There are a few things that I am quite bothered though, like for this MG Ver.K.A I couldn’t seem to find the excellently crafted 3.0 manipulators (it was included with the Nu-Gundam) anywhere as I were to unbox this kit, the only manipulator set that I could find here is the Fixed manipulator sets. Though I do admit in the bigger scheme of things, having the 3.0 manipulator set is not that important, since understandably the ZZ Gundam does come with some humongous weapons system in its repertoire (i dread to think if they made the FAZZ of this kit in the future), but I would still appreciate if Bandai were to include that into the kit as it would give us some options to play around with. We all here love to have options.
Even with that said, that matter is not enough to deter my excitement over this awesome kit. Why you may ask? Oh, just simply because of this;
The manual, yes god the manuals for this. My very first MG Ver.K.A 2017 English language manual and I have to say this up front now that after going through this manual. I really feel like Bandai should just re-release the older Ver.K.A kits with updated English manuals because this particular manual was a joy to go through. Unlike what we get with the RG manuals, I could say Bandai really put a lot of effort into getting this translated and one that was translated really well. There is so much good information that you can get on the ZZ Gundam here but for me personally, the best thing that you will find in the manual is the translated interview between Mr.Katoki Hajime and Akitaka Mika (the mechanical designer for the ZZ Gundam), this is by far the best aspect of the manual and it is one that I really enjoyed reading throughout more than any manuals that I came across in many many years. For those that are interested in the design aspects of the ZZ Gundam this really a must read, a short read yes but one that you would thoroughly enjoy reading for sure.
Due to that, I implore Bandai to just update and translate all the manuals of all the Ver.K.A kits. I can’t stress enough that if we were to have the ability go through them that is enough for you to make stupidly more money then you can imagine ha-ha. Reading through it really made me love the Ver.K.A kits even more and already I’m looking forward to the next one if one to ever presents itself. I really just find myself unable to just can’t go through untranslated Ver.K.A manuals anymore, thanks, Bandai you have spoilt me well.
Talking about the more important aspects of the manual; the building instructions, we can say now it looks to be better than ever. I do find myself having fewer issues understanding the manuals as compared to the ones I’ve made to date, though this is something that I really can’t say 100% for sure since this is a first impression we get by skimming through, but from what I’m seeing it seems to be quite encouraging. For sure I will make sure to update this more after I have spent more time with this.
I really can’t wait to see more of this!
Overall, this is one of the best unboxings I’ve done in a long while and both of the best experiences I had with the MG unboxings that I made this year is from the MG Ver.K.A series. With that going for it, it has made me really looking forward to working my ass off with this kit.
I would be massively disappointed if this turns out to be bad, but so far with what I’m seeing? It’s impossible if this turns out to be shite. Ha-ha.
With that ends my unboxing and first impressions of the MG 1/100 MSZ-010 ZZ Gundam Ver.K.A segment. What do you guys think of the Unboxing of this kit and as well how your own experiences with this kit? I honestly can’t wait to start on the kit and just work on it, as per writing this unboxing I’m already dreading all the time I had writing this and am staring at the beautiful looking runner parts. I should stop writing and just start working on the ZZ Gundam now, ha-ha! Regardless, I do look forward to reading and engaging to all of your wonderful comments and thoughts on the this MG kit!
