Hello, hello! Kimi here and am back with a new Unboxing and Frist Impressions! This week we will am back unboxing a Kotobukiya kit and this is one I have been meaning to come back to since completing the ASRA Ninja. Since I’ve built the ASRA Ninja before, it is only natural that I would get the follow up to the ASRA Ninja; the ASRA Archer! The reason why I decided to get this one instead of another Kotobukiya kit is really due to the fact with my previous experience with the Ninja I was really impressed by the level of their quality and make.
Not to mention here the rarity of this kit made getting this all the more exciting to get!
So off I went, hunting for the ASRA Archer at first to my favorite local store (at the same place that I got the ASRA Ninja) and as I expected the ASRA Archer wasn’t anywhere to be found. Though to their credit, they did inform me that this kit is one of the hardest kit to get, even harder to get then the ASRA Ninja apparently. Not giving up even knowing that then I straight away went to all the Hobby shops that I know in Malaysia and not enough with just that, I went through all the local and international online stores, as well sadly to no avail. This went on for a good few weeks, and still nada.
My luck only changed as soon I got my sorry ass overseas to Taiwan, then and only then I managed to Find this very rare kit. So you can imagine how insanely happy I was to finally own this kit, I was smiling and fondling this all the way till I’m back in Malaysia.
Though the best part about getting this kit is that I managed to snag the last kit from the shelves and to make it even better, I purchased this kit at Taiwan’s Kotobukiya official store in Taipei. Really to have a kit bought from the official Kotobukiya store does feel a little bit different than buying it at some third-party store. I really had a blast talking to all the staff there, they were quite knowledgeable and friendly too! Honestly, though, the shop overall I feel is quite dope. I really don’t mind getting my bum there again to get more kits from them.
Too bad I was too absorbed with all the awesome kits there that I have forgotten to snap any pictures there. Looking back I really wished that I have taken some pictures for you guys here, maybe the next time I’m there, I will!
Anyways, let us get back talking about the kit in hand (ha-ha) and lets us first talk about the boxart. Like the ASRA Ninja, Koto still maintains the excellent quality, look and feel of the box for the ASRA Archer, with maintaining the sexy matte look and feel of the box. As well just like the ASRA Ninja, the Archer’s box has Archer posing as the model of the box, and really she just looks so glorious with her awesome pose.
But the awesomeness wasn’t just limited to just the awesome box art, you can also see the awesomeness as you open the box. The runner parts for the ASRA Archer look simple and anime-ish but it is not one that is lacking in quality…well at the most parts…. there is some parts that I’m still not very convinced about the quality and look of, you would be able to see this when you take a closer look at the ASRA Archer’s gold parts. Unfortunately, unlike the rest, they look pretty crap.
However, like I said before (before I rag on the gold parts that is, ha-ha!) the others look brilliant! Especially the pre-painted parts, this is most obvious when you see the quality of the pre-painted faceplates. Kotobukiya really went all out on the Archers Faceplates! They managed to make this one look even better than the ASRA Ninja’s. Honestly, I can’t fathom how did they managed to make the Archer’s faceplates look both elegant, beautiful and adorable at the same time. Really all of this awesomeness really is making me more excited to start work on this soon.
The manuals, however, is fairly a standard affair, like the ASRA Ninja they had two booklets, included together with the kit, one of the said booklets is a proper building instruction manual booklet and another is a Comics/lore of the Megumi Device’s world, one that I really enjoyed going through. Even though the comics are all written in Japanese, it was still one that manages to be quite interesting to go through and manages to be quite adorable at the same time.
I really appreciate the kind of effort given here in the making of all of these awesome lore/comics. Honestly, it really does manages to increase the value of getting this kit and as well made the kit feels really special for me.
However, I do admit that this kit is priced at a premium and we understand that there might be people out there that wouldn’t be willing enough to splash that much money for a plastic kit. But when you take a moment to reflect on how rare this kit actually is and the kind of content that you’ll be getting here, then you start realizing that the price that you might be paying for this kit, isn’t as painful. But if you decide to get this, knowing the nature of how hard for one to get this kit I would understand if you might not be too inclined to start working on this kit. Why do I say this? Oh, that is because I feel the same way too after unboxing this kit, haha……..
Oh well, since I have started on this I can always look forward to the AOI and there is a pre-order for them, maybe I’ll try my luck then….oh wait are they just closed the pre-order for the AOI variants? FML….
With that ends this round of Unboxing and First Impressions of Kotobukiya’s Megami Device 06: ASRA Archer! What do you guys think of the Unboxing this time? This is probably one kit that I have been having to go through a lot to get, but after unboxing this I do start to feel that all the hassle of getting this, feels worth it. Though I do feel that the review for this might take a bit longer than usual since I would be focusing on completing both the MG Infinite Justice Gundam and the MG Justice Gundam. I do hope you guys would be patient with me on the release of the review for this kit, this might really take a while…ha-ha
Anyways, we will be back again this week more Let’s Talk Gunpla Segment on the coming Wednesday and we will be back as well on the coming Sunday with the review for the MG Infinite Justice Gundam, so do look forward to that!
