Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.63

I can hear voices from my wallet saying…not again

Hello, and we are back once again with the latest edition of Let’s Talk Gunpla! In this 63rd edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we will be talking about some of this weeks awesome Retail announcements!

And again we are getting some pretty huge Retail announcements this week…but unlike last and a few weeks before…this round, we do have some pretty mixed emotions about so of the announcements here.

So, without further ado, let us get into it shall we?

HG 1/144 RGM-79KC GM Interceptor Custom (Gundam the Origins MSD HG)

HG 1/144 RGM-79KC GM Interceptor Custom (Gundam the Origins MSD HG)

Release Date: 2018/11

Estimated price: JPY 1,530* (MYR RM55.91/ USD $13.76*)

*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Dead or alive you are coming with me!

Hmm…purple GM….

So far in the Gundam the Origins series, we’ve seen some pretty interesting kits released and announced for this lineup, this is the only GM variant that we are a bit skeptical with.

The reason being is that if you are aware of the Original MSV (or the MSV-R) line up of GM’s, you will know that this particular variant comes with a pretty HUGE backpack unit. We figured, well since this line up of kits is taking the route of a more grittier and more realistic take of the MS there is no way they would include this ridiculous looking GM variant. Even if they do, there is no way that Bandai would release this under the Retail side….

So imagine our surprise when we saw this being announced for retail. Really we didn’t see this one coming

Though it’s not the most handsome GM variants out there, it did, however, manage to win our hearts here.

Though this is by far not the best-looking GM variant in Gundam the Origins HG kit, but we have to admit that this does look really close to the old MSV era days, not to mention its color scheme too.

we do like the new head mold for this GM variant, it does look quite appealing and yes it does look like the GM gets a Robocop makeover, with the Visor shield and all. The new leg moulds here is as well a welcome change over the more bulkier designs of the previous two GM Variants of Gundam The Origins that we’ve talked before. Taking a more traditional GM-like leg designs it does somewhat fit with the overall look.

For the rest of the kit through the parts seen here is mostly consisted from parts from other previously released Gundam the Origins HG kits and some of the parts do fit well with the overall look. However, the only thing that we were pretty disappointed with is that Bandai didn’t include the awesome looking backpack with the kit.

This awesome looking thing….

Honestly? We were looking forward to seeing that glorious backpack in action, and it would definitely on that we are pretty interested to get our hands working on it.

It’s a shame though, but we do admit the pricing on this is good enough that we think that we might consider getting this. It is a cheap kit, and best of all since it is coming from the awesome Gundam the Origins HG lineup, we think this is definitely would be one that is awesome to build.

This is one awesome pose though

I wonder if P-Bandai would have plans to have the same variant with the backpack installed…..Well, we guess time would tell for this one, though it would be a surprising thing if really that is the case.

Moving on….

HG 1/144 MSN-06S Sinanju Stein (Gundam Narrative Version)(HGUC)

Release Date: 2018/10

Estimated price: JPY 2,210* (MYR RM80.75/ USD $19.87*)

*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Though it is still in CG form, it already looking to be something that we would really have lots of fun with.

The next kit that is on our list is another kit that we never knew that we would ever-ever see it in the HG form.. Thanks to the upcoming new Gundam Series; the Gundam Narrative. We finally get the Sinanju Stein in HG form.

From what we can see here, it is obvious that the kit is made of mostly new parts and as well some old parts inherited from the previously released HGUC Sinanju. The obvious changes that could be seen here on the color scheme, newly redesigned body, head, leg and some of the arm molds. It as well had a completely redesigned backpack unit and beam rifle.

Though this, however, doesn’t look like the Sinanju Stein from the MG Ver.K.A…This version looks like it had bits leftover from the emo char Full Frontal’s version of the Sinanju attached to it….well except for this particular variant it doesn’t come with any gold section.

no gold seen in this gaudy parts…

Though it does have some pretty gaudy parts attached to it, in this version of the sinanju it does look a lot more appealing than the one we saw on the Full Frontal’s variant. We kind of like the mostly white color scheme on the gaudy parts and this do look a bit more realistic…instead of the annoying gold parts on the original.

Though we do realize the price for this is quite steep, we felt that this is not really a bad kit to invest since the original HGUC variant was a blast to build (well except when it comes to the shit gold parts) and I’m pretty sure with how god this one looked… No one with their right mind would pass this one up.

Though one can’t help to wonder if with the announcement of this kit, will we be seeing the Unicorn MSV version (the normal Stein) as a P-Bandai release? While the Narrative Version gets the P-Bandai treatment? That is something that we can’t confirm, but knowing Bandai…we might not be surprised if that is really the case here….

This version of the stein does get some pretty interesting weapon set

Whatever it is, we are looking forward to more news from bandai/pBandai on the Stein. Hopefully, it won’t be that long till we would hear more on this.

Release Date: 2018/10

Estimated price: JPY 4,250* (MYR RM155.30/ USD $38.21*)

hmmm shiny

This was one of the kits that we saw from this batch of annoucements that we really had to take a good long second look. When we saw this we thought to ourselves…..

“Eh, did we just talk about this kit a few months back?”

Oh yes, we did actually, this because now Bandai is planning to release another version of the exactly the same variant but with a shinier paint job!

Yes, it still the same kit

No honestly there really isn’t anything new that comes with the kit here. Well besides that weird looking beam rifle thing…but the rest is pretty similar!

Just look at the stuff they are getting..all of them looks pretty similar…but except the beam Rifle thing…looks like two beam magnum rifle thing being combined into something…weirder

Though when we did take a look at this we all start to wonder…..why didn’t Bandai just release this as the main kit instead?

Because really just look at this awesome thing!

This kit looks brilliant! Well in its shiny look kind of sense of course, ha-ha. Though it does look better than the first variant that was released recently. Though we are never a fan of the HG Shiny kits due to the ugly nub marks that would definitely be seen as soon as we start working on it, we cannot deny the fact that if this kit is done right it’ll definitely look hella fine.

We as well starting to wonder why did Bandai feel the need to release two variants of the same kit in a span not that long ago right next to each other….well it doesn’t take that long for us to realize the real reason for the two diffrent releases.

The Price.

Yes, this is a very expensive kit, one that definitely put people off from buying it. Not to mention it’s a very shiny kit HG kit….that would definitely put a lot of people off from buying this kit.

A very shiny Unicorn indeed….

Though it is damn good to see this in retail, but its really weird to see it being announced as a normal release because usually, this kind of things is something that you’ll see being released as a P-Bandai kit, yes just like the GM Interceptor..we really didn’t expect to see this kit in retail.

Seeing this does feel like a good change, we are honestly happy to see Bandai finally taking some risks here with the annoucement of this. Hopefully, if this does do well…we hope that bandai does release more awesome kits like the weirder variants out there in the market.

Oh yes, we are definitely looking forward to this one indeed. One that we know going to burn our eyes everytime we open up the lights, oh how we can’t wait for that to happen.

Because at least its not P-Bandai

and yes we look forward to seeing this in action, because we still have no clue on what this does….

HG 1/144 Gundam Love Phantom (HGBD)

HG 1/144 Gundam Love Phantom (HGBD)

Release Date: 2018/10

Estimated price: JPY 1,870* (MYR RM68.33/ USD $16.81*)

*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

If Jojo pilots an MS this might be the one he gets

Finally, we get to the last bit of the announcement and whaddya know…

The last kit that we are going to be talking about is another upcoming HGBD release!

Though this is one that…..we are not pretty sure about.

Unlike the previous iteration of the Gunpla kits that we’ve seen, this is not one that we are particularly quite psyched about. This is mainly due to many things….

First of many is the design. Though most of us here do like the MS designs of the Gundam Seed/Destiny series, however, we all agree that the combinations that we are seeing here, doesn’t really fit the overall look of the kit. The combination of Destiny, Strike Freedom, Deathsyche Gundam and Strike Gundam Noir doesn’t seem to work here.

Not to mention that color scheme too….

Pretty nice gimmicks here if i may be honest

Another thing that gets us when we take a long look at this…is its the feets. Honestly, we can’t imagine this being something that one would look and say… I’m pretty sure it would be able to hold its weight well. With the Gundam Love Phantom getting a the Strike Nori’s backpack, we can’t imagine that with that kind of feet it’ll be able to hold up well in any situation……

Though I do give them props for trying to do something wacky with this kit. However, we can’t say that this kit really cutting in for us here eventhough this kit does have some pretty interesting combination of different kits combined together.

Really, this is one that is just too much for us to handle, and we have seen some pretty insane kits coming from the Gundam Builder series but this tho……is one that we really didn’t get.

Interesting concept…but not really a nice combination if you ask me

So yeah…we might give this one a pass….

So that’s……wait….what there is some more last minute news??

Oh, wait what they finally confirmed it?

*we interrupt the end of this with more interesting last minute news from bandai*

NG 1/100 Hi-Res MBF-P02 Gundam Astray Red Frame

NG 1/100 Hi-Res MBF-P02 Gundam Astray Red Frame

Release Date: 2018/11

Estimated price: JPY 11,700* (MYR RM427.52/ USD $105.19*)

*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Beefcake Gundam

Well this was unexpected.

Out of all the kits that we were expecting to see, this is one that we really didn’t expect to hear about its release anytime soon. We were somewhat expecting to hear about this somewhere next week.

Then again Bandai really can’t wait to have this one out as early as they can, and after we had a peek at this we as well can understand why…because what a kit this is….

Would you look at that thicc beedcake Gundam

Looking at this we really can’t help to think of only one word….

Well, that’s two words, but that’s beside the point. The point is that this is that this is one of the most beautiful (and beefy) looking kit with one of the most impressive redesigns we have seen…ever.

Taking a much more humanlike appearance for this design, this looks nothing like what we have seen before. Not to mention from the promotional CG pictures that we are seeing here, it does seem like this is can really articulate itself quite well there.

And the gimmicks that this version of the Astray has is really quite impressive.

I could only wish my feet could stretch this much.

Though the best part of this particular astray is when you get to see its beautiful inner frames in its full glory, we have to say that our hearts skipped a beat when we saw that awesome (and beefy) inner frame…

Even though all of this is seriously impressive but as we were looking at that insane price that this is kit is attached with. We really start to wonder if spending 11,700 yen (MYR RM427.52/ USD $105.19*) on a 1/100 kit is really worth it, because if really think about it you can easily get a PG with that much money.

Plus it’s not like the Hi-Res kits have been making a good case for its existence thus far.

However, with the amount of gimmicks that its given and with that very handsome (but beefy) look, will this be the one that would drive people in getting the Hi-Res kit? We’ll see as soon as this is finally released. Though if we were to be frank, even if we are getting this….we feel like this would be one that we would really struggle to make sense in getting…even if this turns out to be good…because why would you?

You might as awell just get a PG kit.

Well if you do decide to ditch the PG and get this, just know you would be able to look at that awesome thing

Anyways it is time for us to start digging up some holes so we can find us some black gold to fuel our plastic kit addiction.

What? People don’t do that nowadays? Instead, they go mine for money in the interwebs? Oh wow, really? Dang, things have changed a lot, do they? Well, I’d better do some reading on that, in the meanwhile I still have them bottle caps to trade…….oh people don’t do that too?

With that ends our 63rd  episode of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment! Oh, we’re getting some pretty strong Retail news this week, with some kits looking pretty interesting indeed! Most of us here are pretty interested with the Beefcake Astray…but we can’t imagine getting it anytime soon tbh

Though we do like the Gold Unicorn and the Narrative Stein, those two do look pretty awesome.

Anyways do let us know here of what from these kits that you are looking forward in getting or seeing more of and just know that we always look forward in reading and responding to your comments and thoughts of the kits and as well to this post!

  1. Is it me or does the Interceptor’s head look like someone was watching some original Battlestar Galactica? I’m getting a serious Cylon vibe. Thanks as always for a great weekly write-up.

As an idea, maybe it’d be fun to have users submit builds for your critique or even just to showcase!

    1. Oh yeah, that’s the first thing that I thought too as well…haha. I was thinking of it being more Battlestar Galactica-ish then Robocop.

but seriously the GM Interceptor wouldn’t be complete without its insane backpack tho…

That is one of the plans that I have in mind. That’s why I’m working on something on the background up so we could eventually make that into a reality.

Though with the way things is going we might see that happen somewhere at the end of the year….prolly…
