Unboxing one of the cheapest P-Bandai’s out there.
Well with the start of a new year, since we really haven’t been unboxing or reviewed a P-Bandai’s kit for quite a while, why not this week we do an unboxing of a P-Bandai kit from the depths of my backlogs? I figured since we are already on a roll in unboxing and doing reviews of kits from the depths of my backlogs why don’t do one on a P-Bandai kit this week…and why don’t we do one on a kit that is by far the cheapest P-Bandai kit that I have in my dust garnering collection. The one that was based on an HGUC kit that I admit that I haven’t had the slightest of interest since its release back in Jul 2015.
So today why not I’ll do a review on the cheapest and the most affordable P-Bandai kits in the market currently. So this week I will be doing an unboxing of the P-Bandai’s HG 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam Revive (21ST Century Real type Ver.) (HGUC).
Oh, by the way, it’s Kimi here and before I get into the Unboxing I do have something to admit…..
Yes, I do want to shamefully admit since Bandai announced the Grandpa Revive kit, I honestly wasn’t as interested to get it. Although it was getting a lot of rave reviews by a lot of the gunpla builders at the time, but honestly, at the time, I was more interested in getting the MG Gramps Origins version than getting another version of the HG grandpa in my ever growing grandpa collection. Plus, I wasn’t as convinced with the Revive kits at the time because how much of a difference one HG can be when compared to the original HGUC kit that was released back in 2001.
Yet as soon as this version was released back in June 2016 I was completely taken by this kit. Why? Well Because first and foremost it looked like nothing that I’m accustomed to even though admittedly it was based on the HG Revive line of kits, that I wasn’t as interested in getting before. But when I saw this I can’t help to be attracted to this beautiful looking HGUC kit.
That is why I decided to get this and since it is based from the Revive kit, well technically now I can finally claim that I as well have experienced building a revive HGUC Gramps. Though admittedly….it did take me 3 years to FINALLY getting around unboxing this kit.
But you know what? It is still worth it…by just looking at that awesome box… aka the other reason why I decided to get this awesome kit…..
Goddamn, really nothing screams awesome when one would look at that, the recreation of the 1982 box art and seriously this is one awesome box art remake. The fact that they make the CG look of the revive gundam here to look just like how it was on the box art of the 1982 kit does impress me a lot. Even Though I don’t know how the end result of the kit might look but by just judging the kit by the awesome look of this box art already I felt like that is enough to tell me on how awesome this kit particular kit would be.
As well, we are quite surprised to see a P-Bandai packaging that had some awesome info at the side of its box. It looked so different than the other P-Bandai releases that one might be fooled into thinking by looking at this box at the first glance that this kit is a regular release kit. I really do like with what they doing here and honestly, I really wish that they would do something like this more often with their other releases.
Really you get your money’s worth here with that awesome box art if we were, to be honest.
As I move on from the staring at the box to staring on insides of this box I have to say I was quite surprised with what I found inside too! The one thing that I wasn’t really expecting when I unboxed this if I were, to be frank.
Because all the parts for this P-Bandai HGUC kit looked INSANELY good! Honestly, there is so much awesome to take in here, from its awesome color scheme that I could see on the parts, the insane details on some of the individual parts on this kit and last and not least this kit comes with waterslide decals!
Which is making this kit to be one pretty sweet kit already!
But honestly, I was really surprised at how much awesome stuff that I got here, and not to mention too on how well most of the parts looked. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting the parts here to look that good. Even though I’ve seen all the promotional materials for both this and the HGUC Revive Grandpa but I was still was taken well aback by how good everything looked here.
and to think that I might have to cover all the awesome details with these waterslide decals…kind of making me not want to use all of the awesome decals…
However, not all is good with this kit there are some aspects of this awesome kit that was a bit disappointing, is that when we get to the manual of the kit. Which was a bit sad since most of the P-Bandai kits that I’ve gotten so far had some degree of a pretty elaborate and a semi-well made manuals, this kit, however, doesn’t. Instead, it uses the same manual from the retail kit that it was based on, the HGUC Gundam Revive.
I guess in some way, I’ve been pretty spoiled so far with all the awesome P-Bandai manuals recently and honestly, it is not to say that the Revive manuals are bad in any way. But since they have put so much insane effort in making that awesome box art and the awesome parts, seeing this, unrelated manual…kind of undermines the kind of effort that was seen with the rest of the kit.
Regardless, like I said the ‘revive’ manual is quite good with it being filled with awesome lore on the Grandpa and information about all the awesome things that you can do with this kit. Even though, yes, it is odd seeing the ‘happy’ tri-color gundam manual in a more militaristic version kit but somehow it kind of helps me to nurture a growing lust in getting the normal version of the HG Revive Gramps. Though I might not have plans to review it. But truth to be told I might just buy it to possibly mothball with the rest of the unfortunate gunpla souls.
Yeah, that seems like about right.
Overall, despite the disappointing manual. The rest of the kit here does look quite promising and it is making me look forward on to working on this kit as soon as I can! From what I’m seeing so far, it does start to look like a kit that I could recommend.
Oh, before I forget, did I mention that this kit is cheap? Yes, with the kit currently selling at RM 85 (USD $20.75*) this might be one of the cheapest P-Bandai HGUC kits that you can find in the market! Which does sound like a steal from what we are seeing so far and just like the others that I’ve unboxed from the backlogs, this kit looks like its gonna be a good one.
