An unexpected late year-end surprise from the retail side
HELLO! We are back!
In today’s 151st edition of Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we will finally be taking a look at the lone Retail HG announcement that was made last week. In which we feel is a good way for the retail side to end the year with, by giving us something to REALLY be looking forward to in this coming January gunpla release window.
So without further ado, let us get into it, shall we?
HG 1/144 Mobile Doll May (HGBD: R)

Ever since the new chapter of the Gundam Build Divers anime series started, we haven’t had any actual drive to get ourselves to watch the darn show. Even though we have been seeing alot of pretty badass HGBD: R MS design to have come from this show, that wasn’t enough to entice us all here into wanting to watch this particular anime series.
However, that is about to change now after the reveal of the upcoming HGBD: R Mobile Doll May. Because as soon as we took a closer look at this kit, we do now find ourselves starting to get really interested in the series.
Why? Well after taking a closer look at it, we do find ourselves to be quite immensely impressed by what we are seeing here with the HGBD: R Mobile Doll May.

You might be wondering why are we so impressed by what we are seeing here, especially considering that there are many others in the HGBD: R line up that looked even more impressive than this kit.
Well, there is actually a good reason for this. Because out of all the HG Mecha Girl Kits that was released by Bandai, this might be one of the best ones that we’ve seen coming from this particular line-up.
One of the great many things that was done right on the HGBD: R Mobile Doll May is seen on its eye unit. Because from what we can see through the CG illustration to does look like the eye unit itself looked like something more akin to what we would see on Figure-rise bust kits; prepainted eye parts. What’s more, they as well FINALLY decided to give this HGBD: R kit more than one faceplates!

This is definitely something that we all here were quite happy to see Bandai include in because frankly we all here were getting quite sick of seeing their HG Mecha Girl kits release with that stock-standard smiling faceplate.
The base design of the Bandai Mecha Girl kit as well does look to be getting something of an upgrade here as well. Because even though many of the same key design principals from the older releases do make their way here, but there are as well improvements that we could see being made here. Which can be seen on the HGBD: R Mobile Doll May’s joints. Some sections of the HGBD: R Mobile Doll May’s joints here does look to be alot more solid and alot tighter when compared to all the previous Bandai HG Mecha Girl releases.
What’s more, from what we can see here Bandai as well decided to give the HGBD: R Mobile Doll May more flexibility on its waist unit. Which does make the poses of the HGBD: R Mobile Doll May to be more dynamic when compared to its older counterparts.

Admittedly all of these that we talked about this is not something particularly new, especially to those that are already quite familiar to the Mecha Girl scene. Because of some of the ‘new’ things that Bandai does for the HGBD: R Mobile Doll May that we’ve talked about here, we have seen most of it done on Kotobukiya’s kit and admittedly they as well was done better there too. However, I do admit that kotobukiya’s offerings are alot expensive to what Bandai is offering here. Which does lead me to believe that Bandai is really trying their best to create something to cater to those from the Koto camp, by releasing cheap but good looking Mecha Girl kits.
All in all, we do admit that this is looking to be quite an interesting HG release and considering that we don’t have to wait long for this…does make us here quite excited for January 2020 to come.
It looks like it is really time for us to make space for the arrival of our new plastic waifu. Sorry, Fumina-chan.

With that concludes today’s 151st edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment! What do you think of this retail release announcement? Are you looking forward to this upcoming Retail Gunpla release?
