Building and reviewing this MG Heavyarms took alot longer then I expected. The reason being for this is that during this period of time, I had to go through one roadblock after another which came to take me away from working on this MG kit. But yet I’m happy that I still managed to find the time to work on this MG kit.

With the kit now complete, now it is time for me to finally talk about my feelings about this MG kit.

Yes, today I will be giving you my final thoughts on the MG 1/100 XXXG-01H Gundam Heavyarms, but before we get to that let us get into the lore of the MS shall we?

The History of the XXXG-01H Gundam Heavyarms

The Heavyarms, better known as the Gundam Unit 03 was one of the 5 Gundams that was created by the Colony Liberation Organization’s 5 Gundam Scientists to go against the rule of the United Earth Sphere Alliance government and as well to be used as a tool to avenge the death of their leader Heero Yuy.

This MS eventhough it was developed by one of the 5 Gundam Scientists, but this was the only one out of the others that was documented to be directly funded by the Barton Foundation. The reason being for this is that the Heavyarms was planned to be used by one of the Bartons heir, Trowa Barton for the original first Operation Meteor.

However, Doktor S disturbed by Operation Meteor’s true objective decided to take matters into his own hand and assassinated the original Trowa Barton. But the death of the original Trowa didn’t stop Doktor S, because knowing that how much trouble he would be in if the Bartons knew of the death of their son, he decided to replace the pilot of the Heavyarms with an unnamed Engineer that was working on the Heavyarms and asked him to take on the Trowa Barton name to ensure that the Bartons would be unaware of its Heir’s death.

Smart. I’m sure that plan wouldn’t come to bite them in the ass later.

The Heavyarms, unlike the other 4 Gundam units, is the only one out of the others that we here do find to be one of the most practical MS out of the others. Because for one, it had a flurry of medium to long-range weaponry which makes a lot more sense in the kind of Ground warfare that they are waging at the time. Coupled with the fake Trowa’s excellent piloting skills, the Heavyarms was proven to be a quite formidable MS in the battlefield.

Unfortunately, after the battlefield shifted to space Trowa realized that the Heavyarms isn’t going to be all that useful in space battles since the Heavyarms was designed to be a Ground-based assault MS. So before heading to space he decided hide the Heavyarms on earth while engaging in battle in a much more appropriate MS. However, he was again reunited with the Heavyarms after Sally Po discovered the MS on Earth and only started using it again after receiving the necessary upgrade on the Peacemillion by Mike Howard and his team.

With that ends the history lesson for the Heavyarms now let us get to the review, shall we?

The Review

I was pleasantly surprised by this MG kit.

It was one of those kits that manage to subvert my expectations because honestly, I wasn’t expecting this ‘cheap’ MG kit to be something that is as good as the other great MG kits that I have worked on.

There are two good reasons why I feel as such with the MG Heavyarms and one of the main reasons is really due to its simplicity in design. Yes, it was one of those MG kits that didn’t try to be too ambitious with their design. Every single section here was really easy to put together, and there isn’t anything here that I really struggled with.

But the design of the parts isn’t the only thing that like, there is as well the matter on how the parts for the MG Heavyarms were gated here. Because all the gates/nubs/sprue that encounter here with the MG Heavyarms was located in places where either it’s very easy to deal with or they are located in places that it wasn’t that obvious. Which does make for a good building experience overall for me, because that means that there isn’t alot of ‘cleanup’ work that really needed to be done here to make the MG Heavyarms look good.

The second and final reason why we really like this kit alot is really on just on how everything here looks and works. One of the biggest things that I was kind of worried about when before I started working on this kit is just that the possibility of the MG Heavyarms being an unstable mess, however, I was surprised to see how stable the kit was when I got the kit completed.

Yes, even with everything mounted on the MG Heayarms it was still able to stand well without an actual need of support from an action base/stand. Impressive as it may, it is not like Bandai conjure up some magic materials to make this happen, because during my time building the kit I could see how this was made possible. Bandai made the main beam Gattling weapon set (which includes the portable generator and its ammo belt) to be quite light. This, in turn, enables the Beam Gattling set to be mounted on the kit without offsetting the weight distribution of the kit.

Another that was done on the MG Heavyarms in ensuring its stability is that they as well designed the foot of the MG Heavyarms to have a really good ground clearance, which enables the MG Heavyarms to stand comfortably with no issues or what so ever. Not to mention too, that no matter what poses that you may have in mind (as long it doesn’t involve it making a running poses) it would be able to hold it well without you having to worry about the possibility of the kit tipping over to its doom.

What’s more, I’m actually was quite impressed by how color accurate every single part of the kit was. This was really one of those MG kits that looked EXACTLY like how it was marketed, which is something that I do admit that I appreciate seeing.

But best of all is definitely its looks, my god the MG Heavyarms badass look. Yes even though I’m a fan of the Heavyarms anime version design, however, it was the more realistic design approach that was done on the MG Heavyarms here is the one that really wins my heart. I for one really didn’t mind that they decided to ditch the anime look of the Beam Gattling for this version because well just look at it.

So with that said and done, was there any issues that I encounter here during my run with this MG kit? Hmm, to be really honest with you guys? No. This is really one of those kits where everything bad that I was expecting to happen, didn’t happen. I had quite a trouble-free run with this kit and the only thing that really bothers me during my time building this MG Heavyarms is only caused due to my own silly mistakes that I made along the way.

But it is not to say that this kit is perfect.

Because, eventhough I do like the fact that they kept the design of the kit to be simple, but not everyone out there would share my same sentiments over its simplicity. Because I can imagine the lack of details in the MG Heavyarms inner frame might turn some people off from picking this one up. You might be wondering, how do I know this? Well, that is because I was one of those people too, I refuse to pick this up due to the lack of ‘inner-frame’ details.

Which as well may explain why I came in not expecting much of the MG Heavyarms. However, after experiencing all the kit has to offer, I would admit that I could forgive Bandai for the lack of details here since everything else here seems to be quite excellent. This is really one of those kits that I was glad that I gave it a chance.

Overall, this has been quite an experience for me. I for one didn’t expect to be endlessly surprised with the MG Heavyarms. I came here expecting nothing and was surprised to find how much gunpla I got here. I highly recommend people to pick this one up, its simple and fun, a perfect MG kit for one to introduce themselves to the hobby and as well to those looking to get themselves back into the hobby.

I would even recommend this to veterans to the hobby because it does make for a good practice kit and as well a good kit to spend the weekend with.

Now all I need to do is find the Igel version of the MG Heavyarms to complete the MG Heavyarms collection.
