Work in Progress: HG 1/144 RX-121-2 Gundam TR-1 [Hazel II] (HGUC)

The handsome top half of the HG Hazel II

An old HGUC kit that manages to be a nice surprise

I have been having quite a blast this week.

Obviously, it was not for being cooped here of course, but it was mainly from my time building this HG kit. One that I find to be one of the most surprising experiences that I had this year. An HGUC kit that I would admit, coming in I wasn’t expecting much from it.

This might not come as a surprise to some of you here if you have built the kit before, but for a first-timer like me do let me take the time to explain why I feel as such.

This was a section that I find to be a quite simple and surprisingly fun section to put together, one that I really feel sets a stage for what to expect moving forward. Even though I did have to do some paintwork on the HGUC Hazel II’s chest camera, but to be honest? Even without putting an effort here, the chest unit would still look really awesome.

Even the head unit was a blast to work on. Although, at first, I didn’t expect to be using alot of stickers on the HGUC Hazel II’s head unit. But since I was quite curious to see how it would work here, I decided to use the foil stickers here. Unsurprisingly enough looked as bad as I imagined it to be, although it doesn’t look as bad as I was expecting it to be on the main camera part (its eyes). However, I was quite surprised to see how the seam line looked on HGUC Hazel II’s head unit. Although it was quite obvious, it is not that bad.

Just like everything that I’ve built here, I do find the whole experience working on the HGUC Hazel II’s arms unit to be a simple and fun one. The only thing that really bothers me here was just how bad the seam lines on the HGUC Hazel II’s arms unit looked here. A problem that could be fixed with glue, sandpaper, and time. Even with that said, the seam lines here aren’t the worse that I’ve seen. Because as you can see here, even with minimal work done on it, it still looked quite decent.

Another thing that I was quite impressed by, is the detail that I see on the HGUC Hazel II’s feet unit. Yes, it might not be as detailed as to how I’ve seen with the newer HG kits’ parts. But I still appreciate seeing it on an old HGUC kit like this.
HG Hazel's very nice looking legs
Even though I was quite thoroughly impressed by how the HGUC Hazel II’s feet unit looked, but I found myself even more impressed by how the whole leg unit looked. Because coming in I was expecting to see really bad seam lines here, but surprisingly enough the seam lines don’t look as bad as I was expecting it to be here.

All in all, things were looking quite promising so far from what I’ve experienced here and as I looked at how good the progress of this kit is going at the moment, I have a really strong feeling that most likely this kit will be done sometime this week. I really looking forward to the time that I will spend posing the kit and see how well everything works then.

With that ends this week’s Work in Progress post for the HG 1/144 RX-121-2 Gundam TR-1 [Hazel II] (HGUC). What do you think of my thoughts on the kit and how this HG kit looked so far? Did you experience the same things that I did? Or did you guys find out things that I didn’t on my run here? I find myself quite impressed by how awesome the kit was so far for me. I do admit that the kit is starting to grow on me and it is slowly becoming one of my favorite old HGUC kits that I have ever worked on.

One of the many things that I didn’t expect here was just on much fun I was having here, not to mention the amount of work that I needed to do on this to make it look good. I just really hope I don’t botch it all by screwing it up.

Anyways, we will be back again with more new gunpla related posts this coming Thursday! So do look forward to that!
