Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.189

This is what happens when two mecha loves each other very much.

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 189th edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we will be again coming back to go through the rest of the main retail releases that was made last week. Interestingly enough, this week we are going to only cover kits that coming from the HGBD: R line up.

Why? Well, that is because of the HGBD: R line up of kits that are the only main releases that are left to talk about.

So without further ado, let us get into it, shall we?

HG 1/144 Heros MS Team Last Battle Version Special Colors (HGBD: R)

When we all saw this we wondered at first if this is an April fool’s joke. But seeing that we are already reaching the end of April, so we don’t think that this announcement is a deliberate joke from the retail side.

However, you guys might be wondering why we are making that assumption here, and to be perfectly honest, we do have a reason for that. That is because usually special edition sets like these would either be released under P-Bandai or at the very least it would see release as a Gunpla Expo exclusive.

So you can imagine how surprised we were to see this being announced as a retail release.

Don’t get us wrong, we aren’t saying that retail hasn’t released a special edition gunpla releases of their own, they do. It’s just that it has been quite a while since they actually made one and ever since both P-Bandai and the Gunpla Expo side has been taking over the task of releasing ‘Special Edition’ set like this, we thought the retail side would be releasing regulars releases from now on.

So yes, OBVIOUSLY the news of this coming to the Retail side does come at a surprise to many that have been following the retail news for so long. Because none of us was expecting the retail side to do so.

Why bother covering them up when most of us already know what is coming in this set?

But enough of us ranting, what about the kit itself? More specifically you might be wondering, what do you actually get here, with this Gunpla set?

Well, from what we can gather after going through the set’s promotional materials. It does look like you are getting quite alot of Gunpla here. Well, 4 kits in this set to be more precise. Although it should be said that you are just getting new versions of the same existing Gundam Build Divers ReRise kit.

You are getting the new recolored versions of the HGBD: R Unraven Gundam, HGBD: R Gundam Aegis Knight, HGBD: R Wodom Pod, and finally the SDBD: R EX Valkylander. You as well get a set exclusive pedestal that comes together with this ‘last battle’ set.

But if we were, to be frank, we don’t actually find this set to be particularly interesting. So we can’t imagine ourselves getting excited about this particular release.

However, there is one release announcement that we are quite excited about, and which is…..

HG 1/144 Gundam Animarize (HGBD: R)

HG 1/144 Gundam Animarize (HGBD: R)

The ultimate super robot homage kit

This, for a good reason too.

Because the last time Bandai created a kit that looked like something from a Super Robot series, the HGBF Tryon 3, we get to see a moment of insanity from Bandai there. Which we all here admit that we were quite excited to see Bandai continuing to go nuts with their mecha designs.

But looking back at it now, we finally realized now what the designers of the Core Gundam intended to do. We really think that they are trying to create something that perfectly captures the spirit of the HGBF Tryon 3, while not making it look too obvious that they are.

Yes, admittedly we didn’t really understand why they insist on designing the Core Gundam to be as modular as it is at first. But after seeing this newest iteration of the Core Gundam series, we finally understand why.

Because with the Core Gundam it allows them to create the ultimate Super Robot homage kit ever, the HGBD: R Gundam Animarize.

This is really our favorite Core Gundam designs out of all the Core Gundam Variants that I’ve seen

Quite frankly we do feel like this is by far one of the most interesting iterations of the HGBD: R Core Gundam to date. Because eventhough the HGBD: R does try to be a this ‘homage to the super robot’ kit, but they do it in a way that they as well created a very good looking Core Gundam variant at the same time.

As you can already tell here, we are a HUGE fan of the way the HGBD: R Animarize was designed because for one it doesn’t look like your typical Gunpla kit. We here think it might be due to the smart way the clear parts were designed and used with the awesome foil stickers which are included in this HGBD: R kit.

this is an insanely badass HGBD: R kit

But having a lot of clear parts isn’t the only thing that we here think that made this kit look good, it is as well down to the fact to the way that the rest of the HGBD: R Animalrize’s parts were designed, and this another thing that we think the designers got right the overall looks.

Because from the way the HGBD: R Animarize’s color scheme was selected to be used here, to the way that both the clear and normal parts were designed here, it is hard for anyone to resist the good looks of this kit. That is why this kit definitely goes on to our 2020 Gunpla want list.

Not at the top, but it is there.

With that concludes today’s 189th edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment! What do you think of these Retail Gunpla release announcements? Are you looking forward to these Retail Gunpla releases? There is still a bit of Retail news left, but we figured that we shall first cover all the main announcements before moving on to the smaller ones.
