Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.205

Déjà vu

HELLO! We are back!

In Today’s 205th Let’s Talk Gunpla Segment, we will again be talking about some of the new P-Bandai announcements that was made last Thursday. But unlike the other gunpla releases that we’ve talked about from the past few weeks, it seems like this week we would be getting some not so interesting HGBD P-Bandai release announcements.

Although even with that said, it is quite interesting to know that Sunrise just announced that they would restart the 2nd season Gundam Build Divers: ReRise anime at the same time as P-Bandai was announcing these HGBD kits.

That is something that we do find to be quite interesting.

Anyways, without further ado, let us get into it, shall we?

HG 1/144 G-Else (Before)(HGBD: R)

Release Date: October 2020
Estimated price: JPY 2,090 (MYR RM 83.40* / USD $ 19.49* / EUR € 17.38*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

You guys might be wondering why did we start this segment negatively?

Well, it might be because the HGBD kit announcements this week are comprised of some re-colored releases of two of the existing HGBD kits that we’ve here have seen.

Take this for an instance, the HGBD G-Else (Before) kit. There are no changes made to the base kit, nothing particularly new added or given to it. It still has all the same weapons and gimmicks as what we get with the regular release, albeit that it comes in a different color scheme compared to the Retail release.

However, we do admit that the red/white/blue/purple color scheme coupled with HGBD G-Else’s good looks, could make one be quite taken by this kit when one lays their eyes on it. Especially those that are huge fans of the Gundam Build Diver Break manga.

But to those that are not, fans of the manga…it might be hard to justify getting this kit at that P-Bandai price when you can always get the same thing for cheap.

Even though the kit is quite good looking, but the same can be said for the Retail version. As a matter of fact, we here do feel like the retail version looked a lot better than what we see here. So again it begs the question why should you want to get this version then?

But like we mentioned previously, the HGBD G-Else isn’t the only kit that P-Bandai announced

HG 1/144 Gundam Shining Break (Before)(HGBD: R)

Release Date: October 2020
Estimated price: JPY 1,980 (MYR RM 79.01* / USD $ 18.47* / EUR € 16.47*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Yes, this is another one HGBD kit that was announced that we are not particularly excited about as soon as we saw the announcement. Why? Well because just like the HGBD G-Else (Before), the HGBD Gundam Shining Break (Before) is the same old kit as its retail counterpart.

Just like the HGBD G-Else (Before) that we talked about previously, the only thing that was changed here is its color scheme.

But even with that said, just like what we see with the HGBD G-Else (Before), the HGBD Gundam Shining Break is one of the best looking kits and just like the HGBD G-Else (Before) the new color scheme does look good.

We can see that fans of the Manga be interested in getting this kit, but that’s the thing, we have the same reservations with this kit as we did with the HGBD G-Else (Before), it’s a same-ish kit with nothing new to offer. Not to mention these kits are as well will be ungodly expensive for just a recolored HG kit.

But unlike what we have seen with the HGBD G-Else, this kit at least does have a good reason for one to consider getting, which is that particular version does look better than its Retail counterpart.

So unless if you are a HUGE fan of the manga or a fan of the kit, I can’t imagine anyone else besides those two that would be all that interested in getting any of these kits.

Yes, we do realize that coming from us, the same ones that consistently get all excited whenever we see a new same-ish P-Bandai MG Zaku II Ver.2.0 variant being announced do make us sound a bit like a hypocrite. But then again at least with those, P-Bandai justifies it by giving it new awesome custom waterslide decals, and new weapons for some releases.

But these? I know they are trying to stay true to the manga, but goddamn at least give us something to make it worthwhile.

Then again, when we think about it, maybe that is why this kit gets that P-Bandai treatment because they knew that it is hard for one non-fan of both the kit and the manga to justify getting this when it is mostly just the same old kit and they as well know that only the hardcore fans wouldn’t mind spending all of their hard-earned cash on these.

Which we finally understood towards the end of this, that these two kits are not made for us.

With that concludes today’s 205th edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment! What do you think of these P-Bandai HGBD release announcements? Are you looking forward to these P-Bandai HGBD releases? Not the most interesting of Gunpla release announcement that we are getting this week. But admittedly they are some good looking gunplas.

Too bad that they are just mostly are more and less the same thing.

Anyways, we will be back again with some more new gunpla related posts next week, starting on Monday! So do look forward to that!
