Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.217

The last shooting of absolute sadness

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 217th edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we are taking the time to talk about two new P-Bandai Release announcements. These might be one of a few P-Bandai release announcements made that manage to both piss people off, and at the same time, excites people for its upcoming release.

So, without further ado, let us get into it, shall we?

NG 1/144 RX-78F00 Gundam w/ Gundam Dock (No-Grade)

Release Date: September 2020
Estimated price: JPY 2,750 (MYR RM 109.21* / USD $ 26.05* / EUR € 21.94*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

The one thing that we as a Gunpla Builders can think of when every time we look back at this year is that this might be the year of the gramps.

So, when we saw the new Grandpa statue project that they have been working on goes into the final stages of the development, it somehow revived the excitement in us. Well, that is up until we saw the actual bloody thing that is.

We already expect that we would most definitely be getting gunpla versions of it. Because we have already seen them do it with the First Grandpa statue, so, it wouldn’t make sense to us if they don’t do the same thing here.

However, the one thing that we here didn’t expect to see revived in 2020 is the No Grade 1/144 scaled kits series. If we are not mistaken, last time we got the No-Grade 1/144 kits was back in the early 2000s with the release of the No-Grade 1/144 Gundam W Figure Series. Because afterward, Bandai started releasing all the 1/144 scaled kits under the High-Grade Banner or the First Grade banner. So yeah, we are kind of surprised to see Bandai making that decision of not releasing this kit under any of the existing banners.

What we are even more surprised to see being done is seeing this version of the gramps getting the P-Bandai treatment. We here for one do not understand why is this needs to be released under the P-Bandai. Especially considering that most of the 1/144 scaled grandpa variants that was released this year was doing quite well, even the ugly HG G40 Grandpa kit does quite well, so again, what’s the problem with releasing this version of the grandpa under the retail banner?

But if we were, to be honest, we’re not all that excited for this kit’s release. For one, we here don’t think that the design of the F00 Gundam looks good. Yes, we do understand that design-wise, its a more realistic take of the Granpa design. But it is not a design that we here find to be at all appealing to us.

But even with that said, we do admit that at the very least, this 1/144 scaled No-Grade Grandpa variant does come with exceptionally designed accessories. We are not talking about the standard pieces of equipment, that the kit comes with, we are talking about that the badass Gundam Docks.

Yes, if there is one thing that would make getting this version of the gramps worth getting, is probably this, the Gundam Docks Diorama Stand.

The insane detail that is seen here on the Gundam Docks is quite impressive, it looks like the actual stand, that the Gundam Factory Yokohama’s Moving Gundam is currently using. Looking at it, we do feel like are all it needs now to complete the whole thing up is just some miniaturized, ‘social distancing friendly’ visitors figurines.

But sadly, eventhough we are a fan of how the Gundam Docks looked, that is not enough to make us want to get this.

However, this isn’t the only version that P-Bandai had slotted for release.

NG 1/100 RX-78FOO Gundam (No-Grade)

Release Date: September 2020
Estimated price: JPY 3,960 (MYR RM 157.26* / USD $ 37.51* / EUR € 31.59*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Because they as well announced this, the No-Grade 1/100 F00 Grandpa.

If you think that we here already find the No-Grade 1/144 variant of this version unappealing, well, we assume you guys already know what we think of this.

Because you’ve guessed it right, we are as well not at all interested in getting this kit.

But funnily enough, our reasons for not liking this No-Grade 1/100 F00 Grandpa aren’t just because of the looks it is as well because from what we learn about it.

Apparently, from what we can gather from going through its promotional materials, this No Grade 1/100 F00 Grandpa kit, would be using the RE100 design philosophy for the parts. So from that, we can already tell that Bandai is telling us not to expect so much from this No-Grade 1/100 Grandpa variant.

Not to mention, we as well found evidence that there are some bits on the kit here and there that requires painting. So, we can imagine that, out of the box, you still need to do some paintwork if you are planning to make the kit look like the Gundam Factory Yokohama’s moving Gundam.

But then again, when we take another look at the 1/144 No-Grade version, we as well noticed that you may need to do the same thing there, which is painting some of the unpainted bits. But unlike its 1/100 brethren at the very least, the 1/144 version looks somewhat better.

But even with that said, it’s not like we are that interested in getting either of them. So, we don’t think we would need to take out our paintbrush, because this won’t be sitting in the Homebase, for sure.

Anyways, with that concludes today’s our 217th Let’s Talk Gunpla post. If last week, we had an excellent time reviewing some of the P-Bandai release announcements, this week, however, we don’t get the same treatment.

We understand that there might be those out there that are excited about these upcoming P-Bandai releases. Admittedly, that is a feeling that we could understand. Because we are one of those people that thinks all the antagonist MS design in the Victory Gundam, Crossbone, and the F91 anime looks cool. So don’t worry, we don’t mind you guys liking the design.

But what we have a problem with these P-Bandai releases is the fact that they got the P-Bandai treatment, when there isn’t a real need to do so. Despite us not being interested in them, we here felt that these two kits should’ve gotten a retail treatment instead. Because why wouldn’t one want to get another Grandpa.

Regardless, what do you guys think of these P-Bandai Gunpla release announcements after reading our thoughts on them and as well after seeing more of all of them? We do look forward to reading and replying to all of your thoughts on all the P-Bandai Gunpla release announcements.
