Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.233

Sometimes good looks aren’t enough to make us fall in love with you

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 233rd edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla Segment, we will pick up where we left off with the retail segment and talk about the other retail releases.

Let us start this segment by talking about the second cheapest Retail release announcement. Funnily enough, we are not talking about some cheap SD kits here. Because these cheap kits that we will be talking about are coming from the HGBD: R line up.

So without further ado, let’s us get into it, shall we?

HG 1/144 Core Gundam II (TITANS & G3 Color) (HGBD: R)

Release Date: December 2021
Estimated price: JPY 935 (MYR RM 37.00* / USD $ 8.87* / EUR € 7.60*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

So, we are sure that you guys here might be wondering why we are so excited to talk about this? Well, that is because this something that we here have been waiting for Bandai to do ever since we saw the very first version of the Core Gundam.

But with the end of the main series, we do wonder what’s the point of releasing these HGBD: R kits now after the hype for the Build Diver ReRise series is over.

But then again, better late than ever, we suppose, haha.

Honestly, though, we’re quite glad that they decided to go with Core Gundam II’s design over the original version because we here do think that design-wise the Core Gundam II looked better.

But even with that said, these two versions of the stand-alone Core Gundam II release is much less that same to what you would expect with all the other variants of the Core Gundams.

So you might be wondering why one would be interested in getting this?

Well, the answer to that little question would be that these two kits are for chaps like us that might want to create our custom Core Gundam variants, using all the different Core Gundam stand-alone released armor bits.

The thought of making our custom Core Gundam variant does make us all here quite excited to see what weird combinations that we could do with all of the different Core Gundam’s armor pieces.

Not to mention, the color scheme that they decided on the both of them looked great on them as well. So even if you are not interested in getting these to do custom Core Gundams, at the very least, we could see these being something that fans of the series would love to add to their HGBD: R Model Kit collections.

Regardless, we are looking forward to seeing more of this as soon as it is released this coming December.

MG 1/100 XXXG-00W0 Wing Gundam Zero EW Ver.Ka (MG)

Release Date: November 2021
Estimated price: JPY 6,050 (MYR RM 239.42* / USD $ 57.41* / EUR € 49.16*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

To be perfectly frank with you guys, we weren’t all that interested in spending our time talking about this MG kit at first, but we knew that at the time, we should at the very least give this a fair chance and take the time to see if there is anything about it that we liked.

Eventhough, after seeing more of it, we still didn’t change our stance of not getting it, but at the very least, we do admit that there is alot to love here.

For instance, there were quite massive improvements made to the MG Wing Gundam Zero EW joints, where we could see there were changes made to it so it would have a much better articulation when compared to the much older MG version of the Wing Gundam Zero Custom.

Not to mention, this version of the MG Wing Gundam Zero EW as well could transform into two versions of the bird/flight mode. Which we here do find that to be a badass gimmick! Not to mention, we here as well think that the redesign of the MG Wing Gundam Zero EW’s wing unit does look better here when compared to the older MG Wing Gundam Zero Custom as well.

Yes, admittedly, we do think that the MG Wing Zero EW does get alot of much-needed improvement here over its much older counterpart. But somehow, we still find ourselves not as interested in it as we would like.

You may think that from reading our earlier thoughts on this that you may be making that assumption that we might still be bitter with Bandai for the whole MG G-Self Ver. Ka thing.

But honestly? We are not, because we were more bothered with the whole ‘old runners and still using stickers’ fiasco surrounding the MGEX Unicorn Ver. Ka that, we are a bit weary of seeing the Ver.Ka tag on this kit. Because we do start to wonder if this kit would be as good as it looks? Or will it be just some overpriced lazy minor revamp over the older version?

Yes, admittedly, from what we could see here, there is alot of evidence that it may not be the case, but somehow we can’t help to feel there is something amiss here.

Hopefully, it is nothing serious, but then again, we shall take a safer approach here and take the ‘wait and see what the public thinks of it’ approach for this MG kit.

That is why we still not getting on that hype train for this MG kit.

Anyways, that concludes our 233rd edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment. Finally, we managed to take the time to take a closer look at the MG Wing Gundam Zero EW Ver. Ka and we are glad to see that it does look a lot better compared to what we were expecting.

But even with that said, we do find it funny that it still managed to make us not interested enough to get it, even after seeing more of the kit, and what’s worse, we found ourselves more excited for the cheap HGBD: R kits than this MG kit.

Regardless, what do you guys think of these retail Gunpla release announcements after reading our thoughts on this and as well after seeing more of them? We do look forward to reading and replying to all of your thoughts on these retail Gunpla release announcements. So don’t be shy to write on your thoughts and feelings in the comment section below.
