Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.252

HENSHIN in SD.

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 252nd edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we will be taking a look at some of the SD kits Gunpla EXPO 2020 Tokyo reveals. Yes, there is so much to talk about here since there are alot of SD kits showcased during the Gunpla EXPO 2020 Tokyo event, which we all here as well do think looked bonkers.

So today, we’ll first focus on talking about the three upcoming SD releases that we here are most looking forward to seeing more of and finish up with another three in the next segment.

So, without further ado, let us get into it, shall we?

SD Sargent Gundam (Temporary Name) (SD)

Release Date: April 2021
Estimated price: JPY 660 (MYR RM 25.73* / USD $ 6.32* / EUR € 5.24*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Even though most of us here find ourselves endlessly confused and amused with all the more recent Kamen Rider’s rider designs, but the one thing that we can’t deny here is just how much of a badass some of the Kamen Rider designs looked.

So when we saw this SD Sargent Gundam, we can’t help to think about the fact that the SD Sargent looked like the Kamen Rider Ryuki combined with all the very recent ‘card’ based Kamen Rider designs. In other words, we all here do think that Bandai manages to create one of the best SD MS designs that we’ve seen in a long time.

However, at the same time, considering this is an SD kit, we do wonder how much of this awesomeness is sticker based? But to be frank, though, from the looks of it, it doesn’t seem to us that this kit will be using alot of sticker parts because it does look like most of the colored segments that we see here, does look like it’s not painted. It looked more like most of the color bits does look like it came from separate colored parts.

If that’s really the case here, we do admit that is something that we here do find to be quite impressive indeed.

Regardless, we do look forward to learning more about this SD release, and hopefully, the official announcement for this is just around the corner.

SD Nobunaga Gundam (Temporary Name) (SD)

Release Date: April 2021
Estimated price: JPY 770 (MYR RM 30.02* / USD $ 7.37* / EUR € 6.11*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

The SD Nobunaga Gundam is another SD kit that we here do find to be quite impressive. The reason being for that is the fact that just like the previously talked about SD Sargent Gundam, the SD Nobunaga Gundam looked insanely detailed and not, to mention, a really good looking SD kit.

To some of you here, you might be wondering why we so enamored by this SD kit?

Well, for one, just like the SD Sargent, most of the colored parts seen on the SD Nobunaga Gundam, it doesn’t look like Bandai uses stickers on the said parts. Because from what we can see here, it looked like Bandai created separate colored bits for some of the more detailed bits of the SD Nobunaga’s parts.

Which we here do think that is quite an impressive feat to do on an SD kit. Why? Well, because Bandai usually you would only see Bandai does this for its ‘normal’ scaled kits.

But even with that said, unlike the SD Sargent Gundam, there are still a lot of sections that we can see on the SD Nobunaga Gundam that do look like we would expecting to see the parts to use sticker parts.

And unlike the SD Sargent, which doesn’t look like anything that we are familiar with, it is clear to us here that the SD Nobunaga Bandai uses the Epyon Gundam (we think) as the base for the SD Nobunaga Gundam’s design.

Regardless, we do look forward to learning more about this SD kit as soon as it gets that official release announcement.

SD Benjamin Gundam (Temporary name) (SD)

Release Date: TBC
Estimated price: JPY TBC
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

When we saw this, never in our wildest dreams that we would imagine seeing an SD pirate that looked alot better than our favorite pirate MS, the Crossbone. But the thing that we do find quite funny here is that despite its badass pirate looks, the SD Benjamin Gundam’s design doesn’t use the Crossbone as its base. Because from the looks of it, Benjamin Gundam’s base design looks like it uses the V2 Gundam as its base.

Which we all here were quite surprised to see.

However, it’s not like that is such a bad thing, of course, considering that the Bandai design team used the base V2 design and redesigning it into a badass SD pirate.

But unlike the previous 2 SD kits that we talked about, this is the only one out of the three that we feel like it most definitely comes with a lot of parts that requires a lot of paintwork done on it. In other words, we can imagine this kit comes with ALOT of stickers.

Regardless, we are not as concerned about that, especially when we saw the design of this SD kit, because quite frankly, we are still finding ourselves quite in love with its badass looks. Hopefully, we would be able to learn more about it as soon as we can.

Anyways, that concludes our 252nd edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment. Honestly, we here never have imagined that the Gunpla EXPO 2020 Tokyo SD reveals to look so good. Which we admit, does make us look forward to continuing talking about them in the upcoming Let’s Talk Gunpla segment.

Anyways, we will be back again this coming Thursday (hopefully) with more Gunpla/ Gundam merch related posts for this blog. So do look forward to that :D!
