Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.293

Chinese Freedoms in Gunpla form.

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 293rd edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we will be taking a look at one of The Gundam Base’s latest release announcement. From what we can see here, it seems like we will be looking at more Gundam SEED Gunpla related releases.

So, without further ado, let us get into it, shall we?

SD EX Standard ZGMF-X10A Freedom Gundam Ver.GCP (SDEX Standard)

Release Date: September 2021
Estimated price: JPY 770 (MYR RM 28.84* / USD $ 7.04* / EUR € 5.83*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Honestly, when we saw this announcement, we were a bit baffled.

Why?

Well, the reason for that is we do not understand Bandai’s reasoning for making another SD EX Standard release when there is a better SD lineup (the SDCS) that they could base this release on here. We also would admit that we find it even more infuriating to know that this is the first iteration of the Freedom in SDEX Standard form, locked away as a The Gundam Base Limited exclusive release.

Seeing this, we can understand why if some fans of the Freedom Gundam might be frustrated by this announcement. Especially to those that are a bit anal about completing their Freedom collections.

What’s more, it’s even more frustrating for us to see here that the marketing team did a pretty good job in making the GCP Version of the SDEX Standard Freedom Gundam look like a real badass too.

Seriously, it’s hard to find ourselves not be impressed by the level of detail that we see here on the SDEX Standard Freedom. Because from what we can see here, it does look like they really took the time to finely sculpt every piece of the parts for this SDEX Standard kit.

Which brings us to wonder, with that kind of effort they putting in with this SDEX Standard kit, why didn’t they release it as an SDCS kit instead?

Regardless of what we think of it, we’re pretty sure most fans of the Freedom Gundam will be looking forward to this version for sure.

Full Mechanics 1/100 ZGMF-X10A Freedom Gundam Ver.GCP (Full Mechanics)

Release Date: September 2021
Estimated price: JPY 4,400 (MYR RM 164.80* / USD $ 40.24* / EUR € 33.32*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

The announcement for this kit is an announcement that got us all going, huh?

Because the thing is, we thought Bandai planned for the Full Mechanics lineup to be like what RE100 kits are. A platform for the MS designs that they assumed wouldn’t sell well to the general public.

So to see Bandai/The Gundam Base Limited chaps releasing the Freedom Gundam Ver.GCP as a 1/100 Full Mechanics release does rub us the wrong way. Because you already have two MG versions that you can easily convert it to be the GCP version instead of spending al ot of resources creating a new kit.

Admittedly, we can understand why they decided to do this. Bandai needed a new kit, a new mold to promote the new statue in China. So it makes sense for them to create a new one from a new lineup. However, they could’ve converted the MG Ver.2.0 for this purpose instead of creating a new Full Mechanics kit for this.

But even with that said, we would admit that this is a pretty dope kit. Accurately portrayed just like the one we see on display in China. But even though they based this kit on the static statue in China, they didn’t build this one to be just another static kit.

Oh no, this Full Mechanics is looking to be one very poseable 1/100 Freedom Gundam kit. From the looks of it, it does look like it would be a kit that would be able to do quite a several awesome poses. All the while still looking like a badass.

But as we again take a look at this, we really can’t help to wonder. The two MG kits also could do whatever this kit could do, and both of them, I believe, could do it better. So why don’t they just converted either of them instead of creating a completely new one? Wouldn’t that be better and cheaper?

But regardless, we know that we will never know what goes through Bandai’s mind when they plan for all this stuff. But it would be nice to be able to peek into their heads for once to see what’s up.

With that concludes our 293rd edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment. It has been quite a while since we had quite a discussion like this on Gunpla releases. It’s honestly quite refreshing to be able to do so, to be honest.
