Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.336

The Nu-Barbie

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 336th edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we will be looking at P-Bandai China’s latest Gunpla release announcement! Actually, we already saw this announcement last Saturday when we were working on the previously released blog post.

Why didn’t we talk about this instead?

Well, that is because we only saw it when we all finished our discussion on The Gundam Base Limited’s clear-color HG Varguil.

Plus, we decided to go through with the varguil story instead and focus on this another day.

Anyways, with that said and done, let us now get into it, shall we?

MG 1/100 ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos Xuanwu Ver. (MG)

Release Date: March 2022
Estimated price: CPY 2,750 (MYR RM 251.28* / USD $ 60.46* / EUR € 51.68*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

This news doesn’t come as a surprise to us all here. That is because we already have been teased by the P-Bandai China side back when they announced the MG Strike Freedom Gundam Vermillion Bird version.

But even with that said, we admit that we are unsure how it would look like, and honestly? We were hoping that this would come with new bits.

So, after spending time going through this release, do we think there is a reason to pick this one up?

After we spent time going through the press release for this kit, we can safely say with at most confidence that we are not as interested in getting this anymore.

Because from what we see here, we can see that this is just a recolored MG Barbatos with some waterslide tattoo decals. No new bits, just the same kit with different colors.

But we are not implying here that we think this is a bad MG kit. In fact, we are a fan of the Retail version of the MG Barbie, and we all here do feel that despite what we just said, this is still a good-looking recolored version of the MG Barbie.

It’s just that when we heard that they’re making a ‘China Exclusive’ variant, we thought they would go down the road of turning it into something like the MG Musha Gundam. The fact that they included the Chinese folklore theme backdrop with this release does make it seem to us that they were thinking at some point of doing so. Which does make us wonder why didn’t they go all the way here? Why do they end up making a recolored kit?

Regardless, we admit that the color combo of white and black for the barbatos armor is an interesting choice for the MG Barbatos Xuanwu. Why? Well, that is because this color scheme is very Nu-Gundam-inspired.

Hmm, which does get us thinking. Maybe this would be one good kit to have if you’re too lazy to paint your retail MG Barbie into that Nu-Gundam colors.

But then again, it’ll be cheaper to paint it instead of spending money on this. Because honestly, this kit is not cheap. Plus, that is considering if you CAN get it in the first place.

So, to whom is this for then?

Well, if you’re a fan of the MG Barbie and wanted some exclusive premium MG Barbie to add to your collection. We think this is the MG Barbie for you.

For the rest of us, however, we will give this one a pass.

With that concludes our 336th edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment for today. Not the best showing from the P-Bandai China side. We were hoping that they would wow us, but just like the MG Strike Freedom Vermillion Bird, the China P-Bandai exclusive MG Barbie is one of the most disappointing things that we’ve seen coming from the P-Bandai China.

We do wish that they made more of an effort here for this release.

Anyways, we will be back again this coming Saturday (hopefully) with a new blog post. So, please do look forward to that!

Oh, one more thing before we go, it would be a tremendous help to us all here in the blog if you guys were to leave a like on our posts and subscribe to the blog if you find yourselves enjoying our gunpla/plamo related posts.
