Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol. 342

Someone is really getting a lot of love recently, eh?

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 342nd edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we will be looking at one Early Grade Retail release announcement made during the recent Hobby Next Phase 2021 Autumn event. Interestingly they’re going to release another MS design that’s getting alot of attention recently.

Curious to know what we’re talking about here? Well, that is why now we’re getting to it.

So, without further ado, let us get into it, shall we?

EG 1/144 RX-93 v Gundam (Early Grade)

Release Date: April 2022
Estimated price: JPY 1,100 (MYR RM 40.27* / USD $ 9.64* / EUR € 8.51*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Seeing how well the v Gundam and its more badass Hi-v Gundam is performing, it comes to no surprise to us that Bandai would want to capitalize on that by releasing a kit that would introduce newbies to the Amuro’s final (and badass) MS.

However, after going through the press release for this EG v Gundam, we realized that we do not understand Bandai’s retail side’s thought process for this release.

Why?

Well, for one, they didn’t include the fin funnels together with this release, in which we do find it quite funny that they didn’t since it’s not like it’s alot of stuff. But at the same time, we do get why they didn’t include it together. So they COULD sell it as a separate release in the near future.

Although, we have a feeling that they won’t. That is because Bandai designed this EG v Gundam to have the ability to mount the HGUC v Gundam’s Fin Funnels. So we suspect that that’s how Bandai wanted to resolve the lack of fin funnel on this EG v Gundam. By asking people to go out of their way to buy a much more expensive kit.

Admittedly, that is quite a stupid move from Bandai if that is their intention behind the design of this feature because, for one, we don’t think it’s that expensive to bundle in the fin funnels and the Bazooka together with this release. Nor is it that expensive to release it as a separate expansion.

Plus, why does it make sense to Bandai to make people buy the more expensive version of the v Gundam and use one bit of it here on this cheap kit? Wouldn’t it be better for Bandai to release cheap EG fin funnels and make it work with the HGUC kit instead? Wouldn’t that make a whole lot of sense?

But no, it seems like the money-making bit blinds them from making sensible and reasonable decisions.

Honestly? We can’t think of a reason why one wants to do that. Unless, if you have alot of money to blow, or if one, happens have extra HGUC v Gundam fin funnels lying around. We don’t really think that newbies would do that, honestly. So it is baffling to see them do that here.

Admittedly, despite our disappointment over the fin funnel situation, we admit that it is nice that they make this EG v Gundam come with that feature. So we know that if they eventually decided to release the EG fin funnels set, we know that the cheap EG fin funnels would work with the HGUC v Gundam.

Another thing that we like about this EG v Gundam is that for a cheap EG kit, it is a good-looking kit.

To those familiar with the HGUC v Gundam you may not agree with me on this since it does look like it gets alot of the same visual cues from the HGUC version. But unlike the HGUC v Gundam, we are sure that this would look exactly how it is on the box.

Why?

Well, that is because some of us did have experience building one already, and he noted that during his time working on the EG kit, he noticed that color accuracy on the said EG kit was mind-blowingly impressive. So, he wouldn’t be surprised if this upcoming EG v Gundam would have the same level of color accuracy.

What’s more, the articulation on this EG kit is looking pretty promising. But admittedly, we’re a bit skeptical that something this cheap can really pull of them without any issues.

Alas, we’re interested in really getting our hands on one and seeing for ourselves if this EG v Gundam is as good as it looks here.

Hopefully, it won’t disappoint us.

With that concludes our 342nd edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment for today. Not the best first reveal from the Retail side for their upcoming release. But it is the very first kit that we saw.

We know that there are alot of pretty interesting releases just announced, that’s why we will continue all of this coming Saturday (hopefully) post. So, please do look forward to that!
