Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.347

Just in time for Christmas

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 347th edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we will be looking at P-Bandai’s latest release announcements. It looks like we will be getting an MG kit and an MG expansion from the 00 series.

So, let us now get into it, shall we?

MG 1/100 GNY-001F Gundam Astrea Type F/GNY-001F2 Gundam Astrea Type F2 (Full Weapon set) (MG)

 Release Date: April 2022
Estimated price: JPY 6,820 (MYR RM 254.11* / USD $ 60.06* / EUR € 53.12*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Honestly, this is one MG kit that most fans of the 00 series have been waiting for Bandai to make a release announcement of here. Yes, eventhough it does suck to see P-Bandai is the one getting the rights to release this kit. But we are glad that we are finally getting an official version of the MG Astrea Type F and the Type F2 here.

Seeing this gives us hope that we might get the standard Astrea as an MG release sometime soon.

And if they do plan on doing so, so far from what we can see here, it does look like P-Bandai is doing a pretty fantastic job here.

Because even though it is clear to us that P-Bandai reuses many of MG Exia’s existing bits. But it does look like P-Bandai made enough changes to them to make it look different from its original iteration.

Plus, we’re in love with all the new bits they added here to convert the existing MG Exia frame into the MG Astrea.

To those unfamiliar with the MG Exia, you’re probably wondering what we are talking about here.

Well, the thing that we’re talking about here is all the changes made to some of the MG Exia parts. For instance, one of the changes that we could see is on the leg unit, where they replaced the clear part of the MG Exia for a bit with a hardpoint so the MG Astrea could mount a weapon/equipment there. We also noticed that P-Bandai gave the MG Astrea waist unit two frontal waist unit armor units. So it would enable you to easily convert your existing MG Astrea into the F and the F2 units.

You also get a new shoulder armor unit here, and they also seem to be reusing one bit from the MG Exia R3 for one part for both arm units. Oh, they also changed the look of the GN unit here for the MG Astrea. Plus, we noticed that they added a hard point on the GN unit area. This addition would enable the MG Astrea to mount an attachment for the MG Astrea to shoulder mount, the GN Launcher unit.

The last change that we all here notice, and also is coincidentally is the most significant change here, is its head unit. Because for this MG kit, you get two new head units, one for the F variant and another for the F2 variant. Even though we admit that both head units looked fantastic, but the one that we all here are most impressed by is the head unit from the F variant.

Why?

Well, that is because you could mount the awesome visor on it, that’s why.

Not to mention, you get alot of new and existing weapons. And you as well get a pretty dope red color scheme too!

All in all, we are really impressed with what we see here.

But that is not the only thing we’re impressed by here because P-Bandai also decided to release an expansion set for the MG Astrea.

MG 1/100 GNY-001F/hs-A01D Gundam Avalanche Astrea Type F (Expansion for MG Astrea) (MG)

 Release Date: April 2022
Estimated price: JPY 3,300 (MYR RM 254.11* / USD $ 60.06* / EUR € 53.12*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Yes, as you can see here, P-Bandai, in their infinite wisdom, also decided to release the Avalanche Dash expansion for the MG Astrea.

Honestly? We all here think that it is good that we are getting an expansion set instead of a whole new kit created around the Avalanche upgrade.

However, that would also mean that we might have to get three MG Astrea’s if we’re thinking about displaying all three variants. That also means we might have to fork out quite alot to do so. Damn.

Although, admittedly, there isn’t alot to talk about this since it does share all the same qualities and characteristics as its Exia version. Although, we do admit that the red color scheme does look badass on the Avalanche Dash compared to the original version.

But that is not to say the Exia Avalanche colors themselves are not badass. Because honestly, they’re. It’s just amazing to see how much of a great job Bandai did here.

All in all, just like the MG Astrea itself, we are looking forward to this expansion set. Although, it does make us wonder if P-Bandai is planning to release an expansion for the MG Exia as well? Because it would be awesome if they’ll let us buy just the expansion set so we can get a standard MG Exia and update it with the Avalanche expansion.

Or at least reissue the MG Exia Avalanche again for us.

With that concludes our 347th edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment for today. As always, as we near the end of the year, we are starting to see both P-Bandai and the retail side filling next year with alot of badass release announcements. Although, we admit that it’s not as massive as it was in the previous years, where we would have alot of Retail and P-Bandai kits set for release at the start of the year.

But then again, this pandemic is not looking like it’s slowing down, so maybe we should start to expect that we would see fewer new release announcements from now on.

Honestly? This new normal thing sucks ass.

Anyways, we will be back again this coming Thursday (hopefully) with a new blog post. So, please do look forward to that!
