The closest thing to a Ramba Ral blue Zaku that we can get
HELLO! We are back!
In today’s 361st edition of this Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we will continue where we left off with last week’s P-Bandai’s release announcement and talk about that one kit that we missed. Yes, we will finally talk about that newest entry to the P-Bandai’s Pilot Log Gunpla series. The P-Bandai lineup that we thought was abandoned by P-Bandai.
But interestingly, it looks like they shift their focus on releasing newer entries under the RG lineup.
So, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we?
RG 1/144 MS-06-R2 Zaku II High Mobility Type Robert Gilliam Custom (RG)

Release Date: May 2022
Estimated price: JPY 3,630 (MYR RM 131.45* / USD $ 31.40* / EUR € 27.68*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

We were (in a lot of sense) caught by surprise when we saw this announcement.
No, we are not surprised to see P-Bandai releasing another RG Zaku II variant. As a matter of fact, we were expecting it.
The thing that caught all of us by surprise was to see the Pilot Log lineup is still alive and kicking. That surprised us all more than seeing a new P-Bandai RG Zaku II announcement. Why? Well, because it has been so long since we saw P-Bandai make another Gunpla announcement under this lineup, up to the point that we thought that the Pilot Log P-Bandai lineup was dead and done.
But alas, we are still quite happy to see the Pilot Log lineup revived regardless. Because despite what we just said about it being dead and all, admittedly, the Pilot Log lineup is our favorite P-Bandai lineup, and we are hoping to see P-Bandai continue to churn out more Pilot custom MS’s in the future. Hopefully, we’d see more MG’s, and this time we hope that they would focus on releasing MS Pilot Custom from the EFSF side.

So with that out of the way, let us now talk about this release.
Honestly? When we heard of this kit’s announcement, we really did not expect this kit to be mind-blowing.
Because we know that this is just a reskinned RG Johnny Ridden’s Zaku II R-2, and yes, we are expecting the whole building experience to be more and less the same thing.
But even with that said, we admit that we do like what we see here, and despite having already the experience of building the RG Johnny Ridden Zaku II R-2, we are still looking forward to getting and building this RG kit.
Why?

Well, for one, the color scheme on this kit looked absolutely beautiful. The light yellowish blue, paired with the off-white colors, looks absolutely majestic here on the RG Robert Gilliam R-2 Zaku II. Plus, the already good looks of the RG Zaku II R-2 make the whole thing (plus the new colors) look even more badass.
Secondly, P-Bandai gives this RG kit, waterslide decals. Yes, you heard us right, waterslides. That means we do not have to deal with the crap flimsy RG Stickers that the original version had. Plus, it’s nice to see that the overall design of the waterslide decals looks good overall too!
Overall, we find it quite funny that we are looking forward to this one. Because we all here are not fans of the retail variant, if we were, to be honest.

Somehow, strangely, we hoped that P-Bandai would take this chance to fix all the issues plaguing the retail side’s RG Zaku II R-2.
With that concludes the 361st edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment for today. It’s nice to see P-Bandai reviving the Pilot Log lineup. Although, we do wish that we’d see P-Bandai focus more on releasing more EFSF side custom MS designs too here. Preferably we’d like to see more P-Bandai Pilot Log MG kits.
Hopefully, we’d see P-Bandai releasing more Pilot Log kits this year.
Anyways, we will be back again this Saturday (hopefully) with a new blog post. So, please do look forward to that!
