Bandai finally taking the MG lineup to the EXTREME levels.
HELLO! We are back!
In today’s 363rd edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we will be looking at the retail side’s surprising release announcement of a new Gunpla kit. It is undoubtedly an announcement that we didn’t expect to see, especially one that involves a new MGEX kit.
So without further ado. Let us now get into it, shall we?
The Rumor Mill: MGEX 1/100 ZGMF-X20A Strike Freedom Gundam (MGEX)

Release Date: Spring, 2022
Estimated price: TBA
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation
None of us expected a new MGEX announcement. Heck, with the release of the MGEX Unicorn Ver. Ka, we thought that would be the one and only MGEX kit released.
Why? Well, that is because most builders fail to really see the point of the MGEX Unicorn, and not to mention, because of the asking price, the MGEX Unicorn isn’t selling like hotcakes like Bandai expecting them to do.
But apparently, Bandai isn’t ready to give up yet with this MGEX lineup because now they just announced a new one.
And what an announcement it is.
Because from what we can see here, it looks like we finally get an MG SEED kit that’s worth getting.

Plus, not to mention it is also proof to us all here that there is still hope for the MG lineup. Even though the hope now is translated into an offshoot of the MG lineup.
But enough about that, let us now shift our focus on the MGEX Strike Freedom.
When the MGEX Unicorn debuted, we all here found it really hard to be impressed by it. Because despite what many people say and tell us about their experiences with the MGEX Unicorn, we still see the MGEX Unicorn being just a slight improvement over its Original MG version.
But when we all saw the MGEX Strike Freedom Gundam’s press release? We really think that the MGEX Strike Freedom is not just an MG kit with a slight upgrade here. It looks like it got the complete overhaul to its overall looks, from its insides and outside.
Heck, we would even go as far to say that this might be the very best iteration of the Strike Freedom to date, and we dare say, the MGEX Strike Freedom looked even better than its Metal Robot Spirt counterpart.

How did the MGEX Strike Freedom manage to do that?
Well, we here think it is because the designers of the MGEX Strike Freedom take cues from the PG Unleashed Gundam playbook, more precisely from the insane detail bit of the PG Unleashed Gundam playbook.
How? you may ask? Well, for one, they designed the inner frame system for the MGEX Strike Freedom to be quite close to what you get with the PGU Gundam. That means you have an insanely elaborate inner-frame system with an equally impressive articulation for each different segment.
At the same time, we find ourselves quite impressed by Bandai’s efforts in the MGEX Strike Freedom’s color separation on both the armor parts and the inner-inner frame. Especially on the gold-colored bits.
Although, admittedly, we can already feel the amount of work we need to put in to ensure that the ugly nubs will not stain all the badass MGEX Strike Freedom’s gold bits.

Now the question remains, how much will this set us back? Well, seeing how much money we need to invest in getting the MGEX Unicorn, we can imagine this won’t be a cheap MGEX kit as well. But if you’re hoping Bandai to price this close to the MGEX Unicorn, well, we hate to say this, but we do not think Bandai would do that.
Because we can see all these new features, plus all the gold-plated bits and the level of engineering they put into this kit, we can imagine Bandai pricing this MGEX kit around RM1,500 (USD 358.34/EUR 316.64). Heck, we wouldn’t be surprised if they priced this kit around RM2,000 (USD 477.78/EUR 422.19). But we might be wrong too because we hear some Gunpla retailers over here saying that they heard that Bandai might price the MGEX Strike Freedom close to the MGEX Unicorn.
Regardless of what the case may be, we shall wait for the official announcement to confirm our suspicions on the MGEX Strike Freedom’s price point.
But regardless of how much they are asking us to pay for this, one thing is for sure this will be one of the most exciting kits of 2022.
With that concludes our 363rd edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment for today. A really mind-blowing announcement this turns out to be here. After the MGEX Unicorn, we really didn’t expect Bandai to announce another new MGEX kit.
But we are glad to see that they didn’t stop by just one kit, and we are even more ecstatic that they’re taking the MGEX lineup to the next level. Hopefully, they’ll give us more badass MGEX kits in the future.
Anyways, we will be back again this Saturday (hopefully) with a new blog post. So, please do look forward to that!
