Finally, a Dakka SDW HEROES

HELLO! We are back! 

In today’s 370th edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we’ll be looking at one of the other Retail release announcement made during the same Hobby Next 2022 event. But we’re not going to talk about a new HG, MG, or RG kit. Nor we’ll be talking about the Amaim Warrior at the Borderline/Kyokai Senki kits.

Instead, we’ll be talking about one SD release that we here find to be quite fascinating. 

So, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we? 

SDW HEROES Zhao Yun 00 Gundam Command Package (SDW HEROES)

Release Date: September 2022

Estimated price: JPY 1,100 (MYR RM 38.84* / USD $ 9.25* / EUR € 8.41*)

Most of our regular readers would notice that it’s rare to find us talking about a new SD Gunpla release announcement here in this blog. 

The ones that we do spend time talking about here in the blog normally are ones that we find to be quite exceptional or just plain bonkers. Never both. 

So imagine our surprise when we see an SD kit from the SDW HEROES series that manages to be both. The SDW HEROES Zhao Yun 00 Gundam Command Package. 

You might be wondering, eh, that isn’t a whole proper Gunpla? 

Yes, you’re right. Admittedly, this is only an upgrade package for the previously released SDW HEROES Zhao Yun 00 Gundam. But it manages to make something that we aren’t interested in getting into something that WE’RE interested in getting for ourselves. 

Why?

Well, that’s because it manages to turn something that looked mediocre into an absolute badass. 

And they managed to do it by just giving it sunglasses and a badass backpack unit. Well, that is as long as you display it by only using the front side of the kit. Because if you do turn it around, it does look horrible.

But at least it still looks like a winner upfront, eh? 

Regardless of what we feel about its rear end, admittedly, we do like what Bandai/Sunrise MS design team did here. 

Because it perfectly balanced the look of modern MS and the fantasy medieval design aesthetic that they’re going for with most SDW Heroes MS designs.

Unlike the SDW HEROES Warlock Aegis and SDW HEROES Leif Gundam GP04, where they still only focused on mainly medieval fantasy design features. So, yes, it is nice to see an SDW HEROES release that perfectly embodies both design elements.  

Hopefully, we’ll see the SDW HEROES MS design team taking more risks like this. 

And that concludes our 370th edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment for today. Honestly, it’s not every day that we see something exciting like this coming for the SDW HEROES lineup. 

Even though we feel that the SDW HEROES design team did pretty well in designing the MS for that series. But we do admit that we are bored with the “play it safe” fantasy designs that they go for most of the MS designs for that series. 

We don’t mind them going knights in shining armor thing here, but we do hope that they would do something completely bonkers, like, having a horse can turn into a tank, or better yet, a double-barreled chaingun claymore sword.

If they’d ever make that, we would be happy indeed.
