Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.371

The silver demons

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 371st edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we will be talking about The Gundam Base Limited’s newest Gunpla release announcements! And boy, oh boy, the IBO fans had it good this time around because The Gundam Base Limited chaps just announced two new exclusive kits!

So, without further ado. Let’s us get into it, shall we?

HG 1/144 ASW-G-35 Gundam Marchosias [Iron Blood Coating](HGIBO)

Release Date: April 2022
Estimated price: JPY 5,280 (MYR RM 184.27* / USD $ 43.70* / EUR € 39.74*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

We find it quite interesting that for The Gundam Base Japan’s 5th anniversary, they would release two special edition kits from the HGIBO series. What makes it even fascinating is that they’d go for MS designs not from the main storyline Well, to be more precise, they go for the two MS designs from the Japan-exclusive Gatcha game.

But admittedly, we kind of know why they decided to go for these two here. If we can guess, it could be because out of all the IBO MS designs? These two kits are good-looking HGIBO kits. Plus, these two are the newest ones out of the rest too.

So let us now shift our focus to the first one out of the two, and we shall start with the original iteration, the Gundam Marchosias.

Honestly, there is really nothing much to say about the base HGIBO Gundam Marchosias here. Because honestly, if you have built one before and are interested in getting The Gundam Base Limited’s version, you’ll find that The Gundam Base Limited version is basically just a recolored Gundam Marchosias.

However, we think this is not a kit to ignore if you’re a fan of it.

Why is it so, you may ask?

Well, that is because the new recolor looks freakking awesome on the HGIBO Marchosias.

The silver, grey, and black color combination look fantastic overall, and one would find it hard not to commend The Gundam Base Limited chaps on their hard work here. Plus, we like that the black parts (the inner frame bits) made from the same material as the base kit accommodates well with the other plated bits.

HG 1/144 ASW-G-35 Gundam Hajiroboshi [Iron Blood Coating](HGIBO)

Release Date: April 2022
Estimated price: JPY 4,180 (MYR RM 145.88* / USD $ 34.60* / EUR € 31.46*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

And the same is true here that we could say for the current iteration of the G-35 frame. The HGIBO Hajiroboshi. To be precise, The Gundam Base Limited’s version of the HGIBO Hajiroboshi.

Despite being just a recolored kit, The Gundam Base Limited chaps did a fantastic job on the HGIBO recolor work.

Honestly, these are the kind of kits that we imagine even non-fans of the series would not be able to give this one a pass. That’s proof of how good of a job The Gundam Base Limited chaps do on The Gundam Base Limited version of the HGIBO Hajiroboshi.

Even though it is clear that we are fans of these two kits, we are aware that there is one thing that we would be bothered with as soon as we get them here. That would be the nub issue.

Because since this is a silver-coated kit, we know that we will face some nub issues for some parts here. Since we haven’t built any of the retail versions yet, we can’t say for sure how bad it is. But it does mean that you need to put down some paintwork because we know if it’s on the more exposed parts, the nub issue will be hard to ignore. So, yeah, you may need to get some paints too.

But if you choose to leave it as is, we think that both of these The Gundam Base Limited exclusives will still look good regardless. Well, that’s as long as the nubs issues aren’t that obvious.

If there is one thing that would hold anyone back from getting these two kits is the fact that it is expensive. Because the base kit, which only cost JPY 2,420 (MYR 84.34/ USD 20.00/ EUR 18.20) for the HGIBO Marchosias and JPY 1,650 (MYR 57.50/ USD 13.64/ EUR 12.41) for the HGIBO Hajiroboshi, is ALOT cheaper than its The Gundam Base Limited counterpart. Even if you include in all the paint (which is only two), you’ll need to buy if you want to make your own The Gundam Base exclusives, and it’s still not going to cost you as much as getting The Gundam Base Limited versions.

Yes, we’re aware that coated kits usually are more expensive, but double the price from the original version? Not to mention all the issues that come with coated kits that you need to deal with here. Well, those things are what we call a deal-breaker.

But we understand that not everyone would feel the same way because we know that not everyone would have the time nor materials, or skills to work on converting their retail HGIBO Marchosias and Hajiroboshi into The Gundam Base Limited version.

So we understand if you choose to get this, and just what we mentioned earlier, we all here feel that these two are pretty dope-looking kits. But if you do have the skills and the materials do make one, well, you know what to do. Thank Bandai for your new DIY project.

And that concludes our 371st edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment for today. Honestly, these two The Gundam Base Limited kits are really fascinating release announcements coming from The Gundam Base Limited side. Although, we do admit it is one that we struggle with here.

Because we do like what we see here, but at the same time, it is a kit that is hard to justify getting because of its asking price, especially considering the amount of work that you still need to put in after you complete the kit.

Anyways, we’ll be back again next Tuesday (hopefully) with a new blog post. So, please do look forward to that! We will be off this Saturday to focus on some long-overdue work, and we will be back with a new blog post next Tuesday.
