Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.373

A witch without a broom nor a black cat

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 373rd edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we’ll be looking at the Retail side’s latest Gunpla release announcements! Finally, after a long wait, we now get to see the reveal of the MS design and the teaser trailer from the upcoming The Witch From Mercury anime!

But instead of spending time talking about all of them, for today’s blog post, we’ll only focus on talking about the main protagonist’s Gundam.

So, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we?

HG 1/144 Gundam Aerial (HGTWFM)

Release Date: TBA
Estimated price: TBA
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

The reveal of the Gundam Aerial, in our opinion, is an interesting one. Because frankly, it looks like something born from the combinations of kits from the HGIBO, HGAGE, HG00, and some HGUC series.

And you can see it too when you inspect it closely because you can see that there are bits here and there that we find to be quite familiar if you’ve worked with some of the kits from those series.

For example, if you look closely at the feet section, you will find a joint system that reminds us of the HGIBO Barbatos’s feet unit. Also, you will find a head design that looked similar to the Gundam Exia and its middle bit that looked like something taken from the Ahead/Gadessa. You’d also see the venting designs throughout the kit that looked inspired by the Gundam Legilis’s, and it even has a shield unit design inspired by Bawoo’s shield unit.

So, yeah, the Gundam Aerial (design-wise) really looked like a mish-mash in between all the things that we’re familiar with, which begs the question, will this upcoming Gundam have anything new to offer the Builders?

We’ve seen a lot of speculations from other builders out there about what to expect with this release. But so far, there is nothing that is confirmed here. So, we shall refrain from making assumptions.

Regardless of if there is anything mind-blowing or not to expect here, honestly? We are not that concerned because we love what we see here. The HG Gundam Aerial has a very unconventional look, and we like that they’re trying something different here instead of going for the clean flat design that we’ve come to expect.

And it looks like they’re also trying something different with the upcoming anime!

Because as we spend time looking at the teaser, admittedly, we’re getting interested to see more of the Witch from Mercury’s story. But it wasn’t because of ‘this is the first Gundam anime to have a first female lead’ kind of a reason. It is because to all of us here, it is an indication that Sunrise is finally willing to try something new from the character standpoint, mecha design, and we hope story-wise as well.

We admit that it is exciting to see where they would take the story forward. Hopefully, it would take (story-wise) the 86’s route instead of the Kyokai Senki’s.

Because we really want a war story set in a Gundam universe that feels like a war story, not some ‘we’re going on a picnic on the beach’ kind of a war story.

Now we can conclude our 373rd edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment for today. Honestly, it has been quite a while since we’re this excited for a new Gunpla line-up and the anime that the Gunpla is from here. The whole thing does look quite interesting to all of us here, and we are really looking forward to seeing where Bandai/Sunrise will be taking the story this time. Hopefully, it is something new and exciting.

And yes, we will continue to talk about the other two releases in the upcoming blog post!

So, yes, we will be back again this coming Saturday (hopefully) with a new blog post. So, please do look forward to that!

Oh, one more thing before we go, it would be a tremendous help to us all here in the blog if you guys were to leave a like on our posts and subscribe to the blog if you find yourselves enjoying our gunpla/plamo related posts.
