That looks cheap as heck but still quite badass.
HELLO! We are back!
In today’s 381st edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we will be looking at one of Shizuka Hobby Show 2022 newest gunpla showcases. An upcoming MG kit release that almost all of us have been waiting for Bandai to share more information.
Are we talking about the MGEX Strike Freedom?
Yes, we finally have the official word and pricing for the MGEX Strike Freedom! Also, Bandai finally gives us a much closer look at the upcoming MGEX Strike Freedom.
So, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we?
MGEX 1/100 ZGMF-X20A Strike Freedom Gundam (MGEX)

Release Date: November 2022
Estimated price: JPY 15,400 (MYR RM 520.65* / USD $ 118.69* / EUR € 112.84*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Out of all Gunpla releases that we heard and saw Bandai teased us with recently, the MGEX Strike Freedom is the one that we genuinely were looking forward to learning more about, honestly.
But since there aren’t any new updates or rumors about it, we thought Bandai might want to push the release to early Jan 2023. So we are surprised to see that Bandai is still moving forward with their plan for the MGEX Strike Freedom to be released this year.
Although, we admit that after seeing the final reveal, we wish that Bandai would give it more time in the oven before releasing it.
Why?

Well, it is because of the gold materials that they decided to go for this MGEX kit. They decided to give this ultimate MGEX experience the cheap crap-looking unplated gold bits.
Admittedly when we saw the price, it makes sense to us here why they decided to go with this kind of crappy gold color configuration because if they were to use the plated gold instead, we imagine the price for the MGEX would be at RM 1k, and above.
So Bandai might be worried that the RM 1K and above price point might scare potential builders (more precisely buyers) from getting this MGEX kit. As we said, we get why they decided to do so.

That is why we feel that it would be better if Bandai let the MGEX design team have more time to figure out how to get the Gold bits right instead of just re-using the same crappy gold material on MGEX Strike Freedom currently. We reckon if Bandai let the design team more time to figure out the materials, we’d get something closer to what we see on the MGEX Strike Freedom’s promotional materials.
But even with that said, I admit that they did a pretty badass job everywhere else. The overall inner frame design, the final look, and the gimmicks of the MGEX Strike Freedom Gundam looked fantastic. Honestly, we can see that they are doing a lot of things right here.

So, even though we are bothered by how bad the color of the gold parts looked here, we still find ourselves really looking forward to getting the MGEX Strike Freedom still. Because honestly, at the end of the day, the crappy gold bits you can always paint over them if we do not like how it looks. Honestly, it’s more important that the MGEX Strike Freedom is a blast to work on instead of just looking badass.
And that concludes our 381st edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment for today. An insanely good start to the week this news has been for us! We will continue to talk about the other badass retail releases from the Shizuka Hobby Show 2022 in the upcoming Saturday post!
