Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.385

The Bed that can take us to Mars

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 385th edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we will be looking at The Gundam Base’s latest Gunpla release. But this time around, we’re not talking about some big release. Instead, we will be talking about one Gunpla release made to support the HGUC v Gundam and possibly the EG v Gundam.

So, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we?

HG 1/144 v Gundam Booster Bed (HGUC)

Release Date: 21st May 2022 (Japan only)
Estimated price: JPY 1,320 (MYR RM 45.59* / USD $ 10.37* / EUR € 9.73*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Fourteen years after the release of the HGUC v Gundam, we are surprised that Bandai finally decided to release the v Gundam Booster Bed.

It’s not that we are complaining. Because, honestly, we feel like the support vehicles, space battleships, and MS carriers deserve to get the same love from Bandai as the MS themselves, especially when they have a kickass library of them.

We know that that is one of the reasons why Bandai started the EX Model lineup, so they could make that side of the Gunpla fandom happy. But admittedly, it is a one line up where it does require a high level of skill set to get into since most of the parts needed the Gunpla builder to possess some form of painting skills.

We needed something like what Bandai is doing with the HGUC v Gundam Booster Bed, an HGUC level quality ship and vehicle model, which is a simple, and yet badass-looking kit.

Honestly, we find that to be really quite a feat, considering the booster bed is just a weaponless v Gundam carrier. But as simple as it may look, we notice that they really went all out in designing the v Gundam Booster bed to look as detailed as a modern HGUC kit can be here. But at the same time, maintain some form of cohesiveness in terms of the continuity of the looks of the HGUC v Gundam so it won’t look odd when you pair the HGUC Booster Bed and the HGUC v Gundam.

What’s more, from what we can see from the promotional materials, The HGUC v Gundam Booster Bed looked to be quite color accurate.

Why do we say this? Well, we can see that there isn’t any section of the HGUC v Gundam Booster Bed that looks painted on here. That also means that there is no need to use large ugly stickers.

Or maybe we are wrong? I guess time will tell when we eventually get this in our hands and see for ourselves if that is the case.

To make this release even more impressive, Bandai even made the booster rockets from this kit compatible with the HGUC Base Jabber. So you can even consider getting this as an extension for your HGUC Base Jabber.

We admit that this is one pretty impressive HGUC release, even though it is seeing release as a Gundam Base Limited (and now P-Bandai) exclusive release. So we can imagine this an easy kit to get if one missed the preorder window for this, so my advice is to PO it while you still can.

So, yeah, we really don’t mind getting this as a standalone release or even as an expansion for the HGUC v Gundam, or since it is in scale, we wouldn’t mind getting it for the EG v Gundam as well.

Why?

Well, because it looked so good.

And plus, we are suckers for all of the vehicle designs in Gundam in general. Hopefully, Bandai would really consider releasing more vehicle models for us to consume. Because honestly, we can’t get enough of them.

And that concludes our 385th edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment for today. Yes, it is a pretty slow news week, considering that we are talking about a kit that already saw release in Japan and now only opening its preorders overseas under the P-Bandai banner.

But looking at this does give us hope that we might see P-Bandai might open the preorders for the RG/EG/SD ffv Gundam since this is a release from the same Gundam Base Limited side that made them.

Anyways, we’ll be back again this coming Saturday (hopefully) with a new blog post. So, please do look forward to that!
