Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.401

Oh, that is a lot of new kits from the Gundam Base Limited side.

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 401st edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we’ll be taking a break from covering the rest of The Witch From Mercury releases and take the time to talk about all the new Gundam Base Limited’s and Gundam SIDE-F’s Gunpla release announcements!

So, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we?

MG 1/100 Gundam Base Limited RX-0 Unicorn Gundam [Luminus Crystal Body](MG)

Release Date: 22nd August 2022
Estimated price: JPY 7,700 (MYR RM 249.84* / USD $ 56.04* / EUR € 55.43*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

This announcement is one that we admit is one we here find to be the most surprising but yet, at the same time, not that surprising.

Why is it surprising?

Well, for one, we thought Bandai wouldn’t go as far as to release the MG version of this. We assumed that releasing the HGUC version was good enough for them.

But then again, maybe the HGUC sold well enough to encourage The Gundam Base Limited to make the MG version? We wonder.

The other thing we are surprised to see is the MG version of the crystal of light Unicorn looks insanely detailed, and not to mention the whole kit itself looks surprisingly good. Although it shouldn’t surprise us since it is the MG version, one should expect to see that level of detail on this MG kit. But we were surprised to find ourselves drawn to how good it looked.

Plus, we’re even more surprised to see it take this long for The Gundam Base Limited to release this version.

So, then why did we mention earlier that this is a release that doesn’t surprise us to see?

Well, because it is one of the main cows that Bandai loves to milk. So it shouldn’t surprise us that we should at least see one Unicorn kit be released this year. We shouldn’t really be surprised at all to see Bandai finding new ways to milk the Unicorn.

Regardless of what we just said, what does one expect to get if one is interested enough to get this?

From what we can see through its promotional materials, you’re getting only the base kit, with green metallic coated parts, the crystal of light bits, and a metallic coated Action Base 5 with a large base to support the MG Unicorn.

The only thing that we are unsure of is if they included the Unicorn’s Beam Magnum and its shield unit with this kit.

We think that despite it being just a base MG Unicorn with metallic coated parts with crystal bits attached to it, the asking price for this MG kit we feel is justified because you’re getting a lot of Gunpla here.

So, if you’re a fan of the MG Unicorn, you might want to consider getting this.

Well, that is as long you don’t mind dealing with the MG Unicorn’s issues.

NG 1/144 JDG-00X Devil Gundam [Clear Color](No-Grade)

Release Date: 13th August 2022
Estimated price: JPY 1,430 (MYR RM 46.40* / USD $ 10.41* / EUR € 10.29*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Oh, while we speak about being surprised.

The release announcement for the Clear colored version of the No-Grade Devil Gundam is one announcement that we didn’t expect to see at all, especially when you consider that we haven’t even gotten the modern iteration of the Devil Gundam yet.

But even with that said, we are happy to see the Devil Gundam again getting the Gunpla treatment. But we wish that Bandai would stop screwing around and give us an HGFC Devil Gundam.

Anyways, so, what’re you getting here?

Well, to be honest? If you have owned and built the No-Grade 1/144 Devil Gundam previously, this clear-colored version is, as advertised, the same No-Grade 1/144 Devil Gundam that comes in clear color.

That means you’re getting the same No-Grade 1/144 Devil Gundam with the same aging molded parts. The only difference? All the No-Grade 1/144 Devil Gundam parts come in clear color. So if you’re expecting Bandai to fix some of the issues, the original kit has or even expect Bandai to improve the old No-Grade 1/144 Devil Grade mold? Well, you’d better not expect them to do so.

But again, this is a kit directed to fans of the G Gundam series and fans of the Devil Gundam in general, so most of us here wouldn’t mind getting it despite its issues.

So, yeah, we might be one of those interested in getting this.

MG 1/100 Gundam SIDE-F RX-93 v Gundam Ver.Ka (Psycho-Frame Activated Image Color)(MG)

Release Date: 6th August 2022
Estimated price: JPY 7,700 (MYR RM 249.84* / USD $ 56.04* / EUR € 55.43*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

The Psycho-Frame activated Image Color MG v Gundam is a release that we think was made specifically to support the upcoming The Witch From Mercury Prologue HG kits.

Why do we say that?

Well, because it shares the release dates as the upcoming HGTWFM Gundam Lfrith and the HGTWFM Beguir-Beu in Japan.

We don’t understand why Gundam SIDE-F thinks it’s necessary to do that since the two HGTWFM kits look badass enough to sell themselves up. Honestly, we feel this release might push potential customers for those HGTWFM kits away from getting them.

Why?

Because despite it being just a recolored MG v Gundam Ver.Ka, we admit that it looked good! It looked so good that it made us want to get it even though we already owned and built the standard version.

The Green molding color mixed in with the MG v Gundam Ver.Ka’s original colors fit in quite well here. Plus, we feel that the green molding color used here makes the MG v Gundam Ver.Ka looks like it had its green psycho frame activated.

Admittedly, we would have difficulty choosing between this and any of the prologue HGTWFM kits if they were to make it easy for us to get Gundam Base Limited or Gundam SIDE-F kits.

But thankfully, since it’s locked away in Japan, for the time being, we might not have to deal with the issue of the dilemma of getting this or any of the Prologue HGTWFM kits.

Sometimes it’s good that we didn’t live in Japan.

MG 1/100 Gundam Base Limited GAT-X105+AQM/E-YM1 Perfect Strike Gundam Grand Slam Equipped Type Ver.RM (MG)

Release Date: 6th August 2022
Estimated price: JPY 7,700 (MYR RM 249.84* / USD $ 56.04* / EUR € 55.43*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

SEED fans rejoice!

Because you now finally can own the final and the best version of the MG Strike Gundam Ver.RM, the MG Perfect Strike Gundam Ver.RM!

Best of all, this is also the version that comes with the badass Grand Slam Sword!

Honestly, this news also comes as a surprise to us all. Because we thought that the only way to get the MG Perfect Strike Gundam was to get the P-Bandai China-exclusive version. But thankfully, we don’t have to deal with the insane asking price for the P-Bandai China Exclusive and get this version instead!

Yes, it might not be cheap, and yes, there is a possibility that the only way for us to get this version is via scalpers. But at the very least, we do not have to pay PG money to get this version of the MG Strike Gundam Ver.RM.

Not to mention, there is still a possibility of us getting this when the GWBC Malaysia event reaches our shores. Hopefully, we’d be able to get this sold at MSRP Price.

The idea of getting the Alile, Launcher, and the Sword Strike package all in one release excites us! Plus, the Gundam Base Limited chaps went as far as to bundle the Grand Slam Sword together, which turns the MG Perfect Strike Gundam Ver.RM to be the Gunpla release we want to get this year!

Hopefully, we get this released a bit later than the two HGTWFM Prologue kits because if it does, man, that would make life quite hard for us.

And that concludes our 401st edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment for today. It’s nice to take a step back and talk about something different. But that doesn’t mean we’ll stop writing about the other The Witch From Mercury Gunpla/Plamo releases. We still have a few more kits we want to cover, and we’re looking forward to continuing where we left off in next week’s blog post!

Anyways, we’ll be back again next week (hopefully) with a new blog post. So, please do look forward to that!
