Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.404

Now everyone can own a piece of the China RG Freedom!

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 404th edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we will be writing about The Gundam Base Limited’s latest release announcement that we missed back when it was announced together with the RG God Gundam Expansion set.

So without further ado, let us get into it, shall we?

RG 1/144 ZGMF-X10A Freedom Gundam Ver.GCP (RG)

Release Date: October 2022
Estimated price: JPY 3,850 (MYR RM 127.34* / USD $ 28.46* / EUR € 28.12*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Honestly? When we saw this RG kit, we were a bit confused if we had or had not talked about this one because we somewhat vaguely remembered that we did cover this release before.

But regardless of whether we did or did not talk about this kit, we felt like talking about this one because we are finally seeing this one getting an international release instead of only being a P-Bandai China-exclusive release.

Plus, what’s more, it does look like you are getting a lot of pretty fascinating updates for this particular variant of the RG Freedom Gundam. So you might wonder, what are you getting here when you compare this to the standard retail release?

For one, you get all the cosmetic Ver.GCP updates to this version of the RG Freedom. That means that The Gundam Base Limited chaps updated the RG Freedom’s parts to make them look closer to its Gundam China Project statue in China.

So, things like the wing landing gear, the more aggressive looks, the new color scheme, and all the Ver.GCP’s decals are included here for this version.

The other thing we notice in this version of the RG Freedom is that The Gundam Base Limited chaps also slightly improved the RG Freedom’s chest articulation. Not to mention, we as well noticed that the GCP version of the RG Freedom is taller than its Standard retail counterpart.

But despite getting all these improvements made to it, we can still see that the GCP Version of the RG Freedom has all the same DNA as the standard retail release. So one should expect it to still have all the same issues as the standard release.

All in all, we feel like the RG Freedom Ver.GCP is more like a Ver.1.5 update than a complete overhaul to the original release. Also, this feels like something that would be a kit that fans of the original version would appreciate having.

However, the question is would we be interested in getting this? Well, if we were, to be honest? Not really. Yes, it does look better than the standard retail release, and what’s more, you also get a slightly better chest articulation system when compared to the standard release. But the updates made to it are not compelling enough to make us consider getting it. Maybe if they were to make a Ver.2.0, a proper update to the RG Freedom frame, we might consider buying another RG Freedom Gundam.

For now, we’ll give this one a pass.

And that concludes our 404th edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment for today. We admit that this is one fascinating release announcement, although we do wonder if this is a sign from Bandai that we might see the Ver.2.0 of the RG Freedom Gundam soon.

Honestly? We wouldn’t mind getting one if they were planning to release one.

Anyways, we’ll be back again this Saturday (hopefully) with a new blog post. So, please do look forward to that!
