Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.421

Dang, that is some badass Gundam Base Limited kits

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 421st edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla post, we will look at almost all of The Gundam Base Limited’s newest Gunpla release announcements!

So, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we?

HG 1/144 Gundam SIDE-F Limited RGM-89 Jegan (Yu Kajima Custom)(HGUC)

Release Date: 8th October 2022 (Currently Released in Japan)
Estimated price: JPY 1,980 (MYR RM 62.70* / USD $ 13.33* / EUR € 13.69*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

This announcement of a new ACE PILOT series kit comes as a surprise for us.

Yes, we all wanted a new ACE PILOT kit, but we wanted Bandai to release a new ACE PILOT MG or RG kit, not an HGUC kit. Even with that said, honestly, since it is a release from the ACE PILOT series, we don’t mind it as long as Bandai indicates to us that the ACE PILOT series is still alive and kicking.

But enough with that, so what do we think of this Gundam SIDE-F release?

From what we can see, it is just a recolored version of the HGUC Jegan with no new bits. Admittedly, even though we feel the Yu Kajima’s custom colors and decals look good here, we aren’t sure about getting a kit that is essentially more and less the same HGUC Jegan kit.

But since it’s the custom Jegan from the man who piloted the Blue Destiny. Well, we can expect that this Jegan isn’t some pushover. What’s more interesting here, we’re surprised to know that at some point in his EFSF career, he joined the Londo Bell.

As a lore nut, despite knowing that this kit is the same as its Retail counterpart, we admit that we are more interested in getting this version of the HGUC Jegan to learn about Yu Kajima’s exploits after the event of the Blue Destiny.

And the only way to know that is by buying this kit. Hopefully, Gundam SIDE-F would include the lore in detail there.

So, this is an HGUC Jegan made for the fans of the Blue Destiny series and lore nuts like us, which we admit is not a bad idea.

And yes, we are getting this if they decide to bring it to our side of the pond.

HG 1/144 MBF-P02 Gundam Astray Red Dragon (HG Gundam SEED)

Release Date: 8th October 2022 (Currently Released in Japan)
Estimated price: JPY 3,740 (MYR RM 118.43* / USD $ 25.19* / EUR € 25.86*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Speaking about being surprised, seeing the HG Gundam SEED Astray Red Dragon announcement from The Gundam Base Limited side is one that we didn’t expect.

Why? Because the MG version gets the P-Bandai treatment, we expected the HG version to get the same treatment. So, yeah, we were surprised to see The Gundam Base Limited get their mitts on this.

But it’s not that bad since it does mean that the possibility for us to get this without paying the scalper tax is higher.

But even with that said, what do we think of this release?

Unlike the HGUC Yu Kajima’s Jegan, we think the HG Gundam SEED Astray Red Dragon is a must-buy for us. Yes, it retains some of the elements from the original Retail version. But they added so many new bits here that it’s hard for us to ignore this release.

What’s more, from what we saw from some lucky builder’s pictures of the HG Gundam SEED Gundam Astray Red Dragon’s parts, it doesn’t look like the parts were the same mold from the Megazine Exclusive Red Dragon expansion parts made for the HG Gundam SEED astray. The mold we’re getting here is new, and it looked to be more detailed as well.

That is why despite the steep asking price for this HG Gundam SEED kit, we do not mind paying for it. Because honestly, it does look like a worthwhile investment for hardcore Astray fans.

And that concludes our 421st edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment for today. Honestly, we are impressed by this round of The Gundam Base Limited side’s new Gunpla release announcements. We admit we were getting a bit bored seeing The Gundam Base Limited chaps announcing new clear-colored kits every time. So, it is nice to see them announcing their own original Gunpla releases. At least now, we all would look forward to seeing what more interesting kits they have in mind to release.

But to be honest? We’re looking forward to finally moving on to P-Bandai’s new Gunpla release announcements. We heard that they have a lot of pretty dope upcoming kits. So yeah, we are looking forward to spending time staring longingly at the kits that we’re too late to place our pre-orders for here.

And possibly talk about our disappointments of not getting any of them.

Anyways, we’ll be back again next week (hopefully) with a new blog post. So, please do look forward to that!
