Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.434

Doga Psycho 100

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 434th edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla post, we will take a slight detour from covering the P-Bandai releases and focus on The Gundam Base’s Sub Division, the Gundam Side-F Fukuoka.

Why?

Well, that is because they have a new Gunpla release announcement, and it’s another kit from the Char Counterattack series.

So, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we?

HG 1/144 MSN-03-2 Psycho Doga (HGUC)

Release Date: 19th December 2023
Estimated price: JPY 4,180 (MYR RM 134.59* / USD $ 30.61* / EUR € 29.13*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Out of all kits that we expected to get that Gundam Base treatment, the Psycho Doga is one of those kits that we didn’t expect to get the Gundam Base Limited treatment. We expected this to be either a retail release or a P-Bandai one. But not under the Gundam Base Limited banner.

However, it is not such a bad thing since it means we’ll get to buy it via a Gunpla expo or whenever we visit any of the Gundam Base stores. Or whenever P-Bandai listed it on their website/shopee stores. Oh, speaking of that, Bandai confirms that this kit will be listed on their website/shopee sometime soon, so keep an eye on it.

Anyways, let us now talk about this upcoming HGUC Psycho Doga, shall we?

Admittedly, we struggled to find what new part of this kit gets at first. But after spending some time analyzing and comparing this to the Gunpla it is based on (the HGUC Gaera Doga), we can say that the HGUC Psycho Doga head unit, chest unit, shoulder armor, and backpack unit is from a new mold.

It even comes with a pretty nice new color scheme too, and it also comes with Sazabi’s recolored Fin Funnels. But the bit we are most fascinated with about this release is its Beam Short Rifle. It looked like a mesh of the Gaera Doga’s beam rifle and the German MP44, though we prefer they used slightly different green tones instead of what they used here. But then again, it may not look like this out of the box.

Why do we say this?

Because it is clear to us that they painted some of the HGUC Psycho Doga parts, and knowing what we know of the kit that they base this on, we also know that it takes a lot of work to make it look as good as it looked on its promotional materials. Especially its leg part.

And yes, if you’re familiar with the HGUC Gaera Doga, we believe the whole building experience would be more and less the same.

Regardless, we do find this kit to be quite attractive. However, we admit we’re a little unsure of its asking price. Because even though it does come with a lot of new bits, it reuses a lot of the same HGUC Geara Doga parts. So, if they price it at around 3,000 or 3,500 yen, we wouldn’t mind forking out the money to get this.

But for 4,180 yen? We think it’s a bit too much.

Especially considering there are a lot of much better modern HGUC kits that you can get for that price.

Maybe there is something new that The Gundam Base chaps did here that we haven’t seen yet. The only way to know is to get this for ourselves to experience if this kit is worth its asking price and see what new bits they put here besides the things we know and see through its promotional materials.

And that concludes our 434th edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment for today. We’re glad that even The Gundam Base chaps have a new kit lined up.

The only ones that we still haven’t seen anything new here are from the Retail side. Yes, we know that they just showcased a more detailed look at their upcoming kits. But we do wish they have something new cooking up.

But worry not. We will cover all the new things we’ve learned about the retail side’s releases. That is right after we cover the one last P-Bandai release that we haven’t covered.

Anyways, we’ll be back again next Saturday (hopefully) with a new blog post. So, please do look forward to that!
