Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.438

OH.MY.GOD. Now we know why you gave us the HGCDI Guncannon.

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 438th edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we wanted to take a short break from the retail release discussion and talk about P-Bandai’s latest Gunpla release announcements.

Why suddenly, you may ask?

Let’s say that this particular P-Bandai Gunpla release announcement made us understand why we are getting HGCDI Guncannon as a retail release.

So, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we?

HG 1/144 FA-78-01 Full Armor Gundam (HGOrigins)

Release Date: February 2023
Estimated price: JPY 3,300 (MYR RM 110.66* / USD $ 24.97* / EUR € 23.53*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Yes, we believe that the HG Origins Full Armor Gundam getting that P-Bandai release is why we’re getting the HGCDI Guncannon as a retail release. Because once again, it looks like P-Bandai already has something better in their pockets that they know will have us all here wanting. And you know what? They’re right.

After seeing how badass this HGOrigins kit is, we have all forgotten about the HGCDI Guncannon, and all we can think about now is buying this bad boy.

Goddamn you, P-Bandai.

Honestly? We won’t be surprised if most of you feel the same way, especially after seeing how good this kit is. It is clear to us from what we see from its promotional materials, P-Bandai really pulled all the stops in creating this HG Origins kit.

So you might be wondering, what did P-Bandai do here?

Well, you get a slightly altered version of the HGOrigins Gundam. When we say “slightly altered” variant of the HGOrigins Gundam, the only change that P-Bandai did here is that they molded a new body unit and gave it the MSV color scheme. The rest is the same HGOrigins Gundam parts from what we can see through its promotional materials.

We suspect the only reason P-Bandai made a new chest unit mold for this version is so they can fit the Full Armor body armor attachment nicely on the HGOrigins Full Armor Gundam. But in doing so, they made this version look the closest to the TV anime version.

Speaking of the HGOrigins Full Armor Gundam’s armor attachments, we find ourselves impressed that P-Bandai made all the armor bits detachable. Yes, from what we can see through its promotional materials, you don’t have to swap parts to turn the standard Gundam into the full armor version. All you need to do is place the Full Armor armor attachments on the “slightly altered” HGOrigins Gundam, and voila, you have converted your “slightly altered” HGOrigins Gundam into the HGOrigins Full Armor Gundam.

Also, it is impressive to see how close P-Bandai made this version look to its MSV counterpart. It’s almost like looking at the HG version of the MG version with slightly more details on its armor parts.

We are not sure if there are some adhesives you need to use on certain bits of the kit to keep the armor in place (like the MG Full Armor Gundam), but even if it does require some adhesives, it doesn’t really matter to us in the bigger scheme of things. Because honestly, we wouldn’t mind working on something that reminds us of the MG Full Armor Gundam!

Seeing how impressed we are with this kit, we decided to move our HGCDI Guncannon preorder funds to get this one instead. Because honestly, we would be insane to miss this.

And that concludes our 438th edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment for today. Honestly, it is frustrating for us to see this announcement. We do not understand why P-Bandai can’t sit still and let the retail side have its victory lap this week.

They always want to be the center of attention.

And again, they got it.

Anyways. We’ll be back again next week’s Thursday (hopefully) to continue where we left off. Well, that is as long as P-Bandai doesn’t pull another surprise for us next week. Regardless, please do look forward to next week’s post!
