Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.443

Wait, didn’t I have something similar?

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 443rd edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we will take the time to discuss one of Gundam Side-F’s latest Gunpla release announcements. And it looks like The Gundam Side-F’s side has a kit that looked suspiciously close to one retail release kit.

So, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we?

HG 1/144 AMX-11 Geara Doga (Vincent Gleissner’s Custom Machine) (HGUC)

Release Date: 21st January 2023
Estimated price: JPY 2,420 (MYR RM 82.73* / USD $ 18.98* / EUR € 17.53*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Admittedly, even though we were expecting the Geara Doga to get an Ace Pilot Log treatment at some point, we didn’t expect them to do a lazy rendition of it.

Don’t get us wrong here. We don’t mind the Gundam Side-F’s chaps releasing an exclusive gunpla kit that only gets a minor update to its looks. But we expected it to at least have something to offer than what we get here.

Not a lazy, slightly recolored version of the HGUC Rezin Schnider version of the Geara Doga.

Because if you’re expecting this kit to come with anything new, well, you’ll be disappointed when you see this. Because from what we can see, the only thing that changed here is that it gets a lighter blue color scheme on some bits, silver-colored vent parts, and a small custom pilot marking decal.

Yes, nothing significant and nothing new.

Reading this, I know some of you here might say hey, at least it gets a new color scheme. Yes, it does. But the problem is that the color change is so minor that if you put the HGUC Rezin Schnider version right next to this, you will find it hard to differentiate between them.

Admittedly, colorwise the HGUC Vincent Gleissner version’s blue color scheme does look slightly better than the HGUC Rezin Schnider version. But again, it is not enough to justify when it looked almost too similar to the HGUC Rezin Schnider’s version.

Despite what we say about this kit, you be surprised to know that we didn’t believe at first that The Gundam Side-F chaps were that lazy and gave just us this. We all thought that maybe this is a Ver.1.5 version, which means they might, at the very least, give it a slight cosmetic update.

But no, after staring closely at all its promotional materials and after we spend time comparing it to the HGUC version, it is safe to say that this is really just a recolored version of the HGUC Rezin Schinder version of the Gaera Doga.

So to whom is this kit for, then? We reckon this is for those that don’t really mind getting a slightly colored HGUC Rezin Schinder kit. Or lore nuts like us.

But even with that said, one would find it hard to justify getting this, even for lore nuts like us.

And that concludes our 443rd edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment for today. Not a very impressive showing from the Gundam Side-F chaps this time. But we find it interesting that they focus on releasing more Ace Pilot Gunplas for the Char Counterattack series.

We might not yet see anything that is making us want to spend our hard-earned cash on, but we are sure that eventually, there will be a kit that comes around and make us change our minds.

Anyways. We’ll be back again next Thursday (hopefully) with a new blog post, so do look forward to that!
