Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.462

The REVIVE of the 2006 set!

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 462nd edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we’ll take the time to discuss the Gundam Base Limted’s latest Gunpla release announcement! Interestingly, the Gundam Base Limited chaps decided to release the updated version of a 2006 HGUC set for the retail side.

So, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we?

HG 1/144 Gundam Base Limited MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam [UC0088]/ MSN-00100 Hyaku-Shiki/RX-178 Gundam Mk.II (A.E.U.G Colors) Set [Gryps Campaign Special Color](HGUC)

Release Date: 22nd April 2023
Estimated price: JPY 9,900 (MYR RM 326.75* / USD $ 74.04* / EUR € 67.79*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Dang, never did we imagine that out of all things Bandai would want to revive, the 2006 HGUC Gryps Campaign set is the one that they decided to go for. We are not complaining since it is nice to finally get an updated version of this set, especially when they have made REVIVE versions of these three AEUG mains.

So what we’re expecting to see when we heard about this release? We’re hoping they remake it by only using the standard REVIVE kits in one set, and maybe they include some extra bits too.

But no, that is not what we get here. The Gundam Base Limited chaps decided not to release the kits as is since they felt it was not good enough for a ‘Gundam Base Limited’ release. So they decided to coat those kits up and make them look shinier than their Retail counterparts.

Yes, you heard us right because we’re getting all the ‘Gryps Campaign Special Colors’ HGUC REVIVES for this set. What that means is that we are getting specially coated kits.

Admittedly, they do look fantastic, especially for the HGUC REVIVE Hyaku-Shiki. Actually, all of them looked fantastic in their coated colors.

But all we wanted here is a Gryps Campaign set just like the 2006 version, all the REVIVE kits in standard colors, and it comes with cool decals and some kickass boxart. Not these shiny-looking kits that we’d be too afraid to build.

But like we said earlier, these kits still looked fantastic if we were, to be honest, here. Plus, you as well get a pretty cool display stand too! That is if you ever thought about getting this set.

All in all, we have mixed feelings about this one. Because we admittedly love what we see here, and it’s nice that Bandai finally decided to update the Gryps Campaign set. But at the same time, we are not keen on getting shiny versions of the HGUC REVIVE kits in one set.

Hopefully, if Bandai ever decides to release the retail version of the updated Gryps Campaign set, they’ll make it right by keeping the kits in their original configuration.

That would be one that we’d be tripping ourselves over to get.

And that concludes our 462nd edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment. Not the most impressive announcement from the Gundam Base Limited side. But it is nice that we are seeing something more down-to-earth after seeing a lot of badass releases week after week.

Although, we hope we’ll see a new announcement for the retail side in the coming weeks since they have been suspiciously quiet recently.

Anyways. We’ll be back again next Thursday (hopefully) with a new blog post. Yes, we’ll be off this weekend, but we’ll make our return next Thursday! Do look forward to that!
