Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.481

A Modern Full Armor Rendition

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 481st edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we’ll be taking our time to discuss one of P-Bandai’s latest Gunpla release announcements. We know that P-Bandai made more than one Gunpla release announcement this week, but in today’s blog post, we’ll focus on one first.

So, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we?

MG 1/100 Gundam F90 Mission Pack J Type & Q Type (MG)

Release Date: November 2023
Estimated price: JPY 2,420 (MYR RM 81.37* / USD $ 17.48* / EUR € 15.70*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Out of all P-Bandai release announcements, the MG F90 Mission pack series is one of those P-Bandai stuff that we really look forward to seeing. So obviously, when we see a new MG F90 mission pack announcement, this is the release announcement we poured all our focus into.

At least for this round’s F90 mission pack announcements, we have a good reason to be excited about it.

Yes, we get only new sets of armor additions, but at least for one of them, the J Type mission pack, we’re getting something completely different.

Because we’re finally getting a proper Full Armor upgrade for the F90! What’s more, the F90 J Type Armor set looks like a combination of Alex’s Chobham armor set and the Full Armor Gundam’s armor set.

Why did we make this connection, you ask?

That is because we can see bits from the F90 J Type Armor set we think looked familiar, like the chest armor cockpit gimmicks, the backpack beam cannon, the twin arm beam cannon, and the in-armor beam saber. Yes, the design might not be the same, but still, the resemblance is there.

And the one thing that we all can agree on is that it still looks badass.

But despite it looking badass, we start to wonder how the J Type armor set will work on the MG F90. Will it need double-sided tapes to stick to the armor? Like we experience with the MG Full Armor Gundam? Or will it attach nicely like the MG Alex’s Chobham Armor set? We know some bits will work exactly like how the MG Alex’s Chobham Armor works, where it will attach itself nicely, but honestly? We do not know how well it would stick to the armor. We have to get it to see how well it works.

But enough about the J Type armor set, let us now talk about the Q Type armor set.

If the J Type Armor set reminds us of Alex and the Full Armor Gundam, the Q Type armor reminds us of the Wing Zero TV Version’s wing unit. And admittedly, we’re a fan of the all-white color on the armor set because it fits well with the Tri-colored MG F90.

We like that this armor type looked like an experimental armor set, unlike the J Type, which looked like something ready for mass production.

But we’re disappointed that it looked plain compared to other MG F90 Armor sets. No fascinating gimmicks, nothing new.

But then again, not everything should be a hit.

Regardless, we’re looking forward to owning this set. Hopefully, it would be fun to build as it is to look at.

And that concludes our 481st edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment. As we stated earlier, this is only one of the two P-Bandai release announcements, so of course, we will continue where we left off in this Saturday’s blog post.

Speaking of Saturday, we’ll be back again this Saturday (hopefully) with a new blog post. So, do look forward to that!
