Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.483

Does this mean they have a hobby GMII too?

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 483rd edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we’ll cover The Gundam Base Limited Gunpla release announcements. Honestly, it has been quite a while since we saw Gundam Base Limited announcing a lot of exciting kits.

The most surprising thing about this batch of announcements? It’s the first time that most of the release announcements from them that we find to be exciting.

But due to lack of time, we’re covering only one of them today, and we’ll continue where we left off in the upcoming Saturday blog post.

So, without further ado. Lets us get into it, shall we?

HG 1/144 RMS-116H Hobby Hi-Zack (AOZ RE-BOOT Ver.)(HGUC)

Release Date: 22nd July 2023
Estimated price: JPY 3,080 (MYR RM 100.18* / USD $ 22.05* / EUR € 19.69*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Out of all the Hi-Zack variants, this is the one variant we never imagined we see released. Because honestly? It doesn’t play a significant role in the medium the Hobby Hi-Zack debuted in, like the Chars Counterattack anime, the Unicorn novelization, and the AOZ RE-BOOT manga.

But even with that said, we did think that if anyone were to want to release this variant, the Gundam Base Limited chaps seem to be the ones most likely to release this version. So, yes, admittedly, even though we’re surprised to see this version of the Hi-Zack gets the Gunpla treatment, at the same time, we are not surprised to see that Gundam Base Limited is the one releasing it.

We know that part is confusing. However, there is one part that is not that confusing, and that would be our surprise to see how good the HG Hobby Hi-Zacks looked in its promotional materials.

Why?

Well, because we at first expect it to be just a recolored HGUC Hi-Zack with some new bits here and there. We, however, didn’t expect the Gundam Base Limited chaps to make a new mold. Almost everything we see here is updated, and we can see that the changes are extensive.

Honestly? After looking at the changes, we can safely say that most HGUC Hobby Hi-Zack parts are a new mold. Admittedly, it makes us wonder if this is Bandai’s way of confirming that we’ll get a Hi-Zack revive version sometime soon.

But if that is the case, if this is the mold that Bandai will be basing the new HGUC Hi-Zack on, well, we are looking forward to it!

It looked very detailed when compared to the older retail version. What’s more, it does look like the new mold had a much more robust articulation when compared to the retail version, especially on the chest and waist movements.

Admittedly, we know this is the AOZ RE-BOOT version, which may explain why they had to change the look of the HI-Zack to fit the Mecha designs from the AOZ series. But lore-wise, this was supposed to be just the standard Hi-Zack with minor changes. So it doesn’t make sense for Bandai to release a new mold for the HGUC Hobby Hi-Zack if they’re not planning to release a ‘Revive’ version of the HGUC Hi-Zack.

Plus, even if they planned to make the new HGUC Version based on the anime version, we do not think it’ll take Bandai much effort to convert the HGUC Hobby Hi-Zack to the standard anime version. So, we don’t think it’ll take us long for us to see the Retail version.

And that concludes our 483rd edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment. Honesty? We’re impressed by Gundam Base Limited’s work on the HGUC Hobby HI-Zack. It looked so good here, and we feel that it would make for a perfect and exciting base for the upcoming ‘Revive’ version.

Plus, it’s nice to know that we won’t have to wait long to see it resold at a higher price online.

Anyways, we’ll be back again this coming Saturday (hopefully) with a new blog post. So, do look forward to that!
