The badass but same-ish Epyon

HELLO! We are back! 

In today’s 492nd edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we’ll take the time to discuss P-Bandai’s latest Gunpla release announcement. Interestingly, P-Bandai decided this was a perfect time to release another MG Gundam Wing EW-related kit. 

So, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we? 

MG 1/100 OZ-13MS Gundam Epyon EW.Ver (w/Strum Und Drang Equipment)(MG)

Release Date: November 2023

Estimated price: JPY 7,480 (MYR RM 238.16* / USD $ 51.26* / EUR € 47.13*)

With the releases of the other Novel versions of the EW Gundams, it doesn’t surprise us that, eventually, we’ll get the Novel version of the Epyon, too.

But unlike the other Novel releases, this might be one of the most boring Novel versions of the main Gundam in the series. 

Why do we say that this is the most boring version?

The reason is that, unlike the other Novel versions, this version of the MG Epyon doesn’t really come with a massive equipment set that completely changes the look of the standard MS. Anyone familiar with the MG Epyon EW version that isn’t familiar with the Novel version will struggle to find the difference this version has over the standard MG Epyon EW version at first glance. But for those who are familiar with the novel version? Even those familiar with the Glory of the Losers (the said Novel) version know there isn’t much difference between this and the standard version. 

So, you might be wondering then, what we’re getting here? 

Well, we are glad you asked, because to be honest? Nothing much. 

Well, to be precise, you still get the same base MG Epyon EW here, but since this is the Sturm Und Drang version, you get a different beam sword unit, and also, you get the two shield units attached to the MG Epyon’s Sturm Und Drang (The redesigned sword unit) via two cables and arm unit.

All this new stuff P-Bandai added with this version of the MG Epyon would enable you to re-create the Epyon novel version’s defensive mode stance.

But admittedly, despite the new minor additions making the new version look slightly more badass, it is not enough to make one unfamiliar with the Novel Epyon interested in getting this P-Bandai variant.  

So, we weren’t surprised that we still saw it available to pre-order when we opened the P-Bandai shopee page. We do not understand why P-Bandai insisted on releasing the whole package when they could also sell the new additions as an expansion to the MG Epyon. We feel that would sell better than selling the complete package like this. 

But even with that said, we are glad that we are able to pre-order this P-Bandai MG kit since we are interested in getting it despite it being more and less the same thing as its retail version. 

Why? 

Well, it’s because we haven’t gotten any version of the MG Epyon yet, and seeing it in action in the G-Generation Crossrays game made us want to get one for ourselves. 

And that concludes our 492nd edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment. The MG Epyon Sturm Und Drang version is not the most exciting P-Bandai Gunpla release announcement this year. But admittedly, it is refreshing to see a new P-Bandai release that is not gone in 5 seconds on the P-Bandai Shopee page.
