Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.549

A black Shogun

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 549th edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we’ll examine one fascinating recent Gunpla release announcement. Interestingly, it’s an announcement from an MG lineup that we didn’t expect to see in 2024.

So, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we?

MG 1/144 Musha Gundam Mk.II Tokugawa Ieyasu Nanban-Dogusoku Ver. (MG)

Release Date: 27th May 2024
Estimated price: JPY 7,700 (MYR 230.14* / USD 48.89* / EUR 45.28*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

We never imagined seeing another new MG Musha Gundam announcement in 2024. Heck, we never imagined Bandai would announce another version of the Tokugawa Ieyasu Musha Gundam Mk.II in 2024.

After they released the Gold version of the Tokugawa version in 2010, we thought that would be the last time we’d get the Musha Gundam Mk.II variant.

So imagine our surprise when Bandai announced this out of nowhere.

Why are we surprised, you ask? Well, for one, it has been 14 years since we got a new MG Musha Gundam Mk.II variant, so no one expected Bandai to announce a new one in 2024. Heck, even if they are planning a new one, at the very least, we expect them to update the Base kit first before announcing a new one.

But then again, the MG Gundam Mk.II Ver.2.0 base Bandai use here is still pretty decent; it is not a big issue that they are reusing it here.

But we’re bothered by the fact that we have yet to see or hear about a new upcoming MG kit from the retail side.

But enough about what we think about the lack of new retail side MG news. Let’s shift our focus back to our thoughts about this kit, shall we?

Even though we like how fancy the GOLD version looks, we think the more down-to-earth black/red/brown/purple color scheme makes the Nanban Dogusoku version of the Tokugawa Musha Gundam Mk.II look even more badass.

It might not look as flashy as the Gold version, but somehow, Bandai made it look even more elegant than its golden counterpart. Apparently, Bandai based the design (and color) for this version on the armor that Tokugawa Ieyasu wore during the battle of Sekigahara.

Yes, it looks pretty spiffy.

Although Bandai released this kit on the 27th, at the moment, the only way for anyone to get it is by purchasing or preordering it at the treasure house of Nikko Toshogu Shrine.

But worry not, because Bandai has plans to sell this kit on the P-Bandai website and through the Gundam Base stores sometime in the future. That is, as long as you do not mind waiting for it.

But looking at how badass this looked, we’re not surprised if this would also be a scalpers target kit.

That concludes our 549th edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment. It’s definitely an announcement that we weren’t expecting to see, but one that we do welcome.
