Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.559

The white rabbit didn’t skip leg day today.

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 559th edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we’ll continue where we left off with the previous post and talk about one more Gunpla release announcement made by the P-Bandai side.

Yes, we finally get to talk about that very badass HGTWFM kit!

So, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we?

HG 1/144 CEK-043LBK/CEK-043LBR Berguir-Beu Torche (Kenanji Squad/Ridrick Squad) (HGTWFM)

Release Date: August 2024
Estimated price: JPY 2,420 (MYR 71.05* / USD 15.21* / EUR 14.00*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

We’re happy to see a new HGTWFM announcement made even after the end of the main series. Though it is normal for Bandai to tone down the announcements for this series after the end of the main series, we were still hoping to see more announcements from Bandai because there are still MS designs from the main series that we wanted to see made into Gunpla form.

But this new announcement isn’t a kit announcement of an MS design from the main series we have yet to see in Gunpla form. Instead, it’s an HGTWFM KIT announcement of an MS design from the ongoing Manga series.

Admittedly, we aren’t surprised to see a new HGTWFM announcement since the manga spinoff (TWFM: Vanadis Heart) is ongoing. However, we were hoping to see some new bonkers MS designs, but instead, we got a gound version of the Berguir-Beu.

It’s not disappointing; it’s just that we are not fans of the standard version. Admittedly, the announcement took us off guard when we first heard about it.

However, after looking at it closely, we started to like what we saw here.

Why?

Well, that is because despite retaining many of the same traits, it also added many new things. For instance, you get additional leg armor (which is massive) installed in front of Beguir Beu’s leg unit and a new waist backpack unit with a new hinge design for the non-kinetic pods.

All these new bits make the Beguir Beu look pretty beefy, and we here at the blog love beefy kits like this.

But all of that additional plastic doesn’t just make the Beguir Beu Torche look beefy; they’re also functional. Like all the additional armor parts in front of the Beguir Beu Torche leg units, it works as an extra weapon, turning into claws when needed. But what we liked about this is that it also looked like an additional leg for the Beguir Beu when you convert the armor piece into claw mode.

The other feature we like about the new bits is the new hinge made for non-kinetic pods at the new waist backpack unit. When we saw it for the first time, we wondered why they mounted the non-kinetic pods on a hinge to make it less versatile than the standard version. Why do this when you can use cables in the standard version and make it somewhat float to pose it in its activated form? But later, we learned that the Beguir Beu Torche non-kinetic pod hinges can be extended in their activated form. In a way, it works as a replacement for the cables. Yes, it might be less versatile, but it makes sense, considering that this is the ground version of the Beguir Beu.

Also, since we are not a fan of using cables in our builds, we are reconsidering getting this kit for that feature.

The other thing we should have mentioned earlier is that the Beguir Beu Torche comes with two head units. One head has some of the most fabulous horns we’ve seen, and another looks like a much more badass version of the standard head we get with the retail release.

We reckon these two heads symbolize the two different Squads this MS served on. Since we have yet to read the Manga, we can’t say what differences these two head units provide to the MS besides being visually pleasing.

But speaking as a gunpla builder, both heads look cool. Also, we wouldn’t be surprised if someone decided to buy two to display the Beguir Beu Torche in two-head configurations.

Regardless, this kit looks promising, and since we have heard only good things about it, we know it will sell well.

How do we know this?

Because the PO window in P-Bandai’s shopee page immediately closes as soon as it opens. That is how we’re so sure that many people look forward to this, especially scalpers and Gunpla resellers.

That concludes our 559th edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment. It is nice that we have finally covered all the recent P-Bandai announcements in the past two days. But admittedly, we still have P-Bandai-related news to discuss. Amidst all these awesome announcements, P-Bandai did tease us with something interesting.

Anyhow.

We’ll return in the upcoming segment next Thursday (hopefully) with a new blog post! So do look forward to that!
