P-Bandai does it again

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 563rd edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we’ll discuss one of P-Bandai’s latest Gunpla release announcements. Unfortunately, we’re not getting a full Gunpla release announcement; instead, we’re getting news of an expansion for an upcoming RG kit.

We imagine most of you already know the Gunpla release announcement we’re referring to here.  

So, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we?

RG 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam Ver.2.0 weapons set (RG)

Release Date: August 2024

Estimated price: JPY 2,200 (MYR 96.89* / USD 20.73* / EUR 19.13*)

*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Looking at this, it gives us the old no-grade kits feel when we saw this expansion. Everything we’re getting here is the same as what we would get with the old no-grade weapons expansion.

Granted, this is better than the old, outdated, no-grade weapons expansion set. But still, looking at it, one can’t help feeling a bit nostalgic.

Anyway, let us discuss our thoughts on this expansion set for the RG Gundam.

To be honest?

We think all the weapons in this expansion look fantastic. From the intimidating Gundam hammer to the beam Javelin, the napalm launcher (yes, it is nice to see that you can attach the napalm launcher to the beam rifle), and the additional bazooka, everything looks great. Also, the beam saber/javelin beam effect parts included in this set looked fantastic!

But what they added here that surprised us the most was that we learned that we’re getting the Gundam Hammer Chains molded in one runner. No, it’s different from the way we get in the MG form Because, for the RG version, they are getting the Advanced Joint System (aka the same system that the base of the old premade RG skeleton is on) treatment here. They don’t have to go that hard on just the chain bit, but they did here, and because of that, they won a lot of brownie points with us.

It is also quite surprising to know that we’re getting this in August. We thought it would take a while after the release of the actual kit this month to get this expansion, but P-Bandai has been working on the expansion alongside the main kit development.

But if we’re honest here?

We wonder if Bandai intended the weapons to be released with the main kit, only for them to decide to ship the weapons separately at the last minute.

We felt it seemed too convenient for us to receive all these extra bits so close to the main kit’s release, as if they had already planned for it in advance.

Very suspicious indeed.

That concludes our 563rd edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment. Joking aside, we aren’t surprised that Bandai decided to release this expansion.

In fact, we were half expecting it, if we’re honest.

Even with that said, we are not happy to learn that all of this is locked away as a P-Bandai exclusive release. Honestly, we would prefer it if they included everything and charged us more for this new version instead of selling this expansion via P-Bandai.

Anyhow.
