Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.576

A sexy hand grenade.

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 576th edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we’ll discuss one of P-Bandai’s latest Gunpla release announcements. It was one P-Bandai release announcement that we didn’t expect to see announced this year, especially one coming from the HGAC G-Unit series.

So, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we?

HG 1/144 OZ-06MS-SR2 Leo-R (HGAC)

Release Date: January, 2025
Estimated price: JPY 2,420 (MYR 69.26* / USD 16.47* / EUR 14.91*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

None of us expected to see this.

Yes, we know that P-Bandai still needs to cover quite a few of the G-Unit MS designs, and we know that eventually, P-Bandai will get to them. However, since there has been no news about a new HGAC G-Unit coming from the P-Bandai side up until today, we assumed that P-Bandai has no plans to release new HGAC G-Unit kits for this year.

But boy, were we wrong. A week back, P-Bandai decided to announce a new addition to the HGAC G-Unit family: the HGAC Leo-R out of nowhere.

At first, we weren’t sure if what we were looking at was a kit from the HGAC G-Unit family because, initially, we thought that it looked like a highly modified version of the HGFC Nobell Gundam. More specifically, we believed what we were looking at here at first was a kit from the Build Fighter series.

But the more we look at it, the more confident we are that this is the Gunpla version of the most fascinating variant of the Leo MS design. Granted, it might share the same ‘hair’ design features as the HGFC Nobell Gundam, but the rest are definitely original parts explicitly made for this kit.

We admit we were surprised to see how well they pulled it off. We assumed that redesigning the HGAC Leo to make it look less masculine and more feminine would be difficult. But by God, they managed to do it.

The best part? They managed to make it look feminine and badass too.

Honestly, this might be the first HGAC Leo variant for which we can say for certain that the only DNA it shares with the original version is its joint system. The rest is definitely new.

Looking at this kit, we understand why P-Bandai needed time to announce this. They probably wanted to make sure that they got the HGAC Leo-R right.

Honestly? Looking at this, we think they did a damn good job with the HGAC Leo-R, and we are sure many people, fans or non-fans of the G-UNIT series, that saw this kit would love to have this part of their Gunpla collection.

That is why we are not surprised that the PO window was closed as soon as they opened it.

This concludes the 576th edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment. It is nice that even towards the end of the year, we are still getting badass Gunpla releases from the P-Bandai side.

Yes, it is unfortunate that one of the better-looking Leo variants is a limited ‘Premium’ Bandai release. Still, we reckon many people wouldn’t mind paying a bit more to get this version of the Leo from the Gunpla resellers, and we can’t blame them.

We know that since we feel the same way. We liked the design so much that even when we didn’t manage to secure one during its preorder window, we are considering getting one from resellers.

That is how much we adore the design of this thing.

Anyhow.

We’ll return in the upcoming segment next Thursday (hopefully), and we will be off this weekend since Kimi will be away for a short holiday break. But worry not—we will definitely return with a new blog post next Thursday! So do look forward to that!
