Finally, it is not in red anymore
HELLO! We are back!
In today’s 578th edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we’ll discuss one of P-Bandai’s latest Gunpla release announcements. Again, we are looking at a release we didn’t expect to see in MG form.
Before we start, we apologize for missing last Thursday’s blog post. Kimi was away for a few days to work (it was a last-minute request) on completing a sample display kit for Impulse Gaming’s TAGCC 2024 booth. However, he underestimated the time needed to work on the sample kit, taking longer to complete than expected. He was rushing to complete the task before its deadline, so we postponed publishing this post to today. Sorry about that, guys.
So, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we?
MG 1/100 GNY-001 Gundam Astraea (w/Proto GN Twin Broad Blade)

Release Date: 26th October, 2024
Estimated price: JPY 7,170 (MYR 206.51* / USD 47.92* / EUR 44.13*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

We were shocked to see this announcement because, after seeing all the fabulous kits announced by Bandai at the recent 62nd All Japan Hobby Show 2024, we assumed that Bandai (and P-Bandai) would focus on releasing more MS designs from the Gundam Seed, Requiem for a Vengence, and the upcoming Silver Phantom series-related Gunplas.
You can imagine how surprised we were when we saw the announcement for this kit. But honestly, it has been a long time coming. Ever since the release of the MG Astraea Type-F, we have been waiting for them to announce the Astraea in its standard colors.
So, seeing this news makes us all very happy.
But what is about this release that we are excited about, you ask?
It’s because the Astrea is one of our favorite MS designs from the 00 series, and we are some of the small subset of Astraea fans who prefer the standard colors over the red color scheme that we get with the Type-F.

But what excites us about this upcoming kit is that, from what we can see here, it does look like P-Bandai managed to translate it well into the MG form.
Admittedly, P-Bandai has little to do with this since this is technically a recolored version of the MG Astraea Type-F. But even with that said, we admit that they did a damn good job with the recoloring bit because, man, the standard Astraea color looks bloody fantastic here.

But even despite it being mostly the same, there is an excellent reason to get this if you already own the MG Astrea Type-F, and that reason is the Proto GN Twin Broad Blade.

Yes, we are finally getting the Proto GN Twin Broad Blade in Gunpla form. Since we saw this weapon, which debuted as a High Maneuver test pack add-on for the Metal Build Astraea, we have been quite obsessed with the thought of finally getting this weapon in Gunpla form.
So imagine how happy we were that we didn’t have to sell our kidney to get this badass weapon for our MG Astraea.
And knowing that makes us look forward to getting this P-Bandai kit.

This concludes the 579th edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment. We’re aware that Bandai just dropped a huge release announcement recently, and admittedly, we’re taking it easy before we get there. Plus, since Kimi has been quite a busy bee recently, it gives us more time to think about how we feel about the Retail and P-Bandai’s upcoming Gunpla offerings.
Which we will talk about in next week’s blog post.
Anyhow.
We’ll return in the upcoming segment next Thursday (hopefully) with a new blog post! So do look forward to that!
