Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.581

Beyond the Zakudome

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 581st edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we’ll continue where we left off from the last blog post and cover the rest of the other Gunpla reveals from the 62nd All Japan Model & Hobby Show 2024.

There are still a few good-looking kits to discuss, but these are ones that we’re either unsure about or just not interested in getting.

But even with that said, we still find them quite interesting.

So, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we?

HG 1/144 DZ-001 Delta Zayin (HGUC)[P-Bandai]

Release Date: TBC
Estimated price: TBC
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

We admit that even though we find the Delta Zayin an attractive MS design, we are more interested in getting other kits than the HGUC Delta Zayin, but that is just us. Despite what we feel about getting this, We’re sure it won’t stop most people from getting this.

But why are we not interested in this kit?

Well, it’s because, just like the Unicorn and the grandpa, Bandai has been milking this design ever since they started with the HGUC Delta Gundam. Yes, it was nice to see a transformable version of the Hyakushiki. Still, seeing the same design in different colors and with minimal changes throughout the years will eventually drive you up the wall.

But enough about our and others’ feelings about getting this. What about the kit itself? Is there anything of value here?

It is technically a recolored version of the HGUC Delta Gundam, with a new head unit and a redesigned shield. Also, instead of getting the same beam rifle as what you get with the HGUC Delta, the HGUC Delta Zayin is getting the HGUC Zeta Gundam’s Beam Rifle.

Even with that said, from just looking at the sample kit they showcased at the All Japan Model & Hobby Show event, we can already tell that if you are familiar with the HGUC Delta Gundam, you will find this one to be more or less the same thing, which is why we weren’t at all taken by it when we first saw it.

But we might be wrong; maybe they did something new. Since there isn’t much to go by, we will continue this when we learn more about this kit.

They might still manage to change our minds.

HG 1/144 MS-06F Zaku II F-Type (LaShon Custom) & Rebuild Zaku F-Type (LaShon Custom) (HGRFV)[P-Bandai]

Release Date: TBC
Estimated price: TBC
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

After watching the show recently, our excitement for the upcoming HGRFV Gunplas is starting to wane significantly. The show wasn’t as good as we hoped it would be, though we admit that we do enjoy all the MS Battle scenes in the series. But ultimately, the show is bogged down by its weak story.

But despite all of that, it does come with quite a few pretty badass MS designs, like LaShon’s version of the Zaku II F-TYPE.

Honestly, we were surprised that Bandai decided to lump these two versions into one release. Bandai (or P-Bandai in this case) typically releases these kits separately.

It’s not that it’s a bad thing since it is nice that they’re lumping these two versions into one, but we reckon it would be quite a pricy thing to get.

Oh, speaking about lumping kits together.

HG 1/144 MS-06F Zaku II Type-F (Chubb & Keils Custom) & Rebuild Zaku II Type-F (Solari’s Custom)\

Release Date: TBC
Estimated price: TBC
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Yes, we are even getting the other two members of the Red Wolves MS released as Gunpla. So, if you are thinking of completing the Red Wolves Custom Zaku II collection, well, P-Bandai made it easy for you to do so.

But we were pretty surprised they included Solari’s Rebuild Zaku II F-Type with this set.

Why are we surprised?

Well, when this was teased a few months back, we thought we would be getting it as a standalone release. But Bandai might be having second thoughts after seeing how badly it was received by fans. Maybe that is why they wanted to release everything quickly so they could be done with it.

If that is the case, it might explain why they decided to bundle both versions of LaShon’s Zaku IIs into one release.

Since we haven’t worked on any of the HGRFV yet, we can’t say much about whether this would be a worthwhile purchase or recommend anyone get one. But just from the looks alone, it does look good (kind of).

We are still on the fence with this one, but we might get this set just for Solari’s Rebuild Zaku II F-Type. Just because we do like the how the Zaku looks like something from the Mad Max movie.

But again, we will get back to this when we learn more about this and LaShon’s version as soon as P-Bandai releases more details on this release.

This concludes the 581st edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment. There are a lot of really good-looking kits this year; however, it is a bit sad that we are seeing more good-looking ones get the P-Bandai release instead of a retail one.

But we are equally frustrated that, once again, Bandai is focusing less on catering to us, the Gunpla builders.

We get they’re trying to diversify, but can they find a nice balance while doing that? It’s frustrating to see fewer Gunplas announced year by year.

Anyhow.

We’ll return in the upcoming segment next Thursday (hopefully) with a new blog post! So do look forward to that!
