Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.594

Bandai is taking the ‘new year, new me’ thing a tad bit too seriously.

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 594th edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we’ll talk about one of Bandai’s recent teaser announcements, specifically an announcement of a new Tabletop game that is supposed to work in conjunction with the new Gundam Trading Card Game.

Yes, we are talking about that Gundam TCG that we just got to know got delayed to April 2025.

So, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we?

That is a lot of minis to look forward to

When we first saw this news, we didn’t know if we wanted to cover it. But since Bandai has been quiet with new kit releases, we just decided to take a look at this.

Plus, since we were looking forward to the upcoming Gundam TCG game, we would love to know how this would work with the Trading Card Game. So, we somewhat hoped to learn more from going through the Gundam Assembles teaser announcement.

Unfortunately, the teaser announcement didn’t reveal much. All we know is that the upcoming Trading Card Game will work with the tabletop game, but that is about it.

But to be honest? We are baffled that Bandai is wasting resources on this. Instead of giving us more MG, PG, or RG kits, they waste their effort on a tabletop game.

Isn’t it enough for them to focus on creating more Gunpla? Suppose they must do this to diversify their business. Why can’t Bandai work on a system where instead of wasting workforce designing minis, why didn’t they create a system that integrates the existing HG line to work with the Gundam TCG instead?

The worst part about this announcement is that because of this, the release of the upcoming Gundam TCG is delayed until April 2025 apparently.

Anyway, those who are interested in the Tabletop game might wonder what they are getting here. Will you expect to get a mini with already-colored runners and parts that come out of the box already colored, like we get with Gunplas? Or will we be getting a Tabletop mini-figure with articulated limbs?

No, you are not. Instead, from what we can gather from the Gundam Scramble’s promotional materials, they will be taking many lessons from the Games Workshops playbook. More specifically, the minis look like those from the Warhammer 40K series.

One definitely needs a godly painting skills to be able to make it look as good as the painted figure there.

That means we will get minis whose parts will all come in uncolored form, and they will released as fixed figurines. Yes, we know it was silly of us to hope that Bandai would upend the Tabletop Gaming with some dynamic minifigures. But at the very least, we can expect to see a lot of custom-colored MS when the game comes out this coming July.

Also, unlike the wallet-crushing prices of the Warhammer 40K Minis, at least Bandai was sensible enough to make the Gundam Assemble minis cheap. So, we wouldn’t be surprised if more people would give the Gundam Assemble a chance. The only thing that we are still unsure of is its Gameplay. It would be interesting to see how the TCG would work with the tabletop game.

AT least we know from Bandai’s vast experience with printing runners for Gunplas, the kits will be at the highest quality

All in all, the Gundam Assemble tabletop game looks exciting. But admittedly, we still find ourselves not interested in it. Why? We have a nagging feeling that the rules would be too complicated, and we really don’t have enough time to dedicate ourselves to that. We don’t mind picking up the Gundam Trading Card Game since usually the rules aren’t as robust as tabletop gaming, but tabletop? Nah.

But then again, we shall see; maybe Bandai would make it interesting enough for us to consider, but who knows?

This concludes the 594th edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment. If we were honest, it’s not a great start to 2025. We already started the year on the wrong foot. Kimi got infected with bad flu after the New Year’s and spent the week trying to recover. When we heard about Bandai’s plan to announce something new, we thought we’d see Bandai release and announce more MG kits, but instead, we got this.

Although it is not a lousy teaser announcement, this makes us think that getting a new MG or PG might be a pipe dream for us now.

Anyways

We’ll return to the upcoming segment next Thursday (hopefully). Yes, we will be taking the weekend off this week since there isn’t any new Gunpla news, but we might release something if Bandai drops something interesting this Friday. But for now, we will return next week with a new blog post! So do look forward to that!

  1. Oof. Considering how well Bandai has spoiled us on color-separated runners, asking players to learn a new painting discipline for this game feels like a rough choice. It also naturally has me wondering how well the fan-maintained Mobile Suit Skirmish will hold on to its playerbase in the coming year, especially considering that it does have that integration with existing 1/144 scale kits. All very wait-and-see.
