This looks more like a high-mobility version than a light-armor version.
HELLO! We are back!
In today’s 606th edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we’ll discuss another round of P-Bandai’s latest Gunpla release announcements. Although we know that P-Bandai recently dropped one of the most fascinating HG kits we’ve seen to date, for today’s blog post, we will talk about one of P-Bandai’s older recent release announcements instead.
Why? It’s because this was THE blog post that we were supposed to post last Saturday.
However, since Kimi was out of commission due to being a bit unwell, we collectively decided to postpone the release of the post until Wednesday instead.
So, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we?
HG 1/144 RX-81LA G-Line Light Armor (HGUC)

Release Date: April 2025
Estimated price: JPY 3,630 (MYR 108.13* / USD 24.47* / EUR 22.47*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

We wanted to start this one with a question.
Did any of you, our dear readers, manage to snag the HGUC G-Line Standard armor?
If you answer no, congratulations—we are on the same team! Actually, we don’t think anyone we know managed to get one through normal means.
Admittedly, we can (if we choose to do so) purchase one via any Gunpla scalpers on shopee selling this HG G-Line standard armor at ridiculous prices. But we refuse to do so and would rather wait until either someone sells it at its intended MSRP or until P-Bandai reprints it.
But if your answer is yes, then lucky you! You are one of the few lucky ones who managed to snag this under the hands of the dreaded Scalpers, and we are happy for you!

But our question to you lucky ones is whether it was as good as we heard from those fortunate enough to get it claimed it to be.
And if it is, would you consider getting this new version?
We asked this question because, from what we can gather, this version of the G-Line is just the same kit with a different equipment set. From your own experience working on the HGUC G-Line Standard, is it good enough for you to consider getting another one?
So what about all these questions you ask? Is there an issue with this release?

It’s not really an issue, per se. It’s more because we have been hearing many good things about this kit, so much so that we are interested in getting one. However, we are finding it hard to justify getting one since the only ones we see sell at insane asking prices for an HGUC kit. So that is one of the reasons why we decided to wait.
Anyways, enough on that. Let us now talk about our thoughts on this kit.
Honestly, when we saw this announcement, we were a bit surprised.
Why?
Well, back when P-Bandai first announced the G-Line, we assumed that P-Bandai would treat this lineup like they did with the MG F90 A to Z series, where we would only occasionally get new expansions for the base HGUC G-Line.

So imagine our surprise to see Bandai release not an expansion but a complete kit instead. But then again, we don’t mind getting this since it gives us another chance to get the HGUC G-Line. Plus, it would make collecting this kit easier for completionist collectors. However, it would be nice if P-Bandai also released the Light armor set as a standalone expansion for those who only wanted to get it alone and have it interchanged with their existing kit.
Speaking about the HGUC G-Line’s Light armor set, we admit that we like the look of this kit’s armor set. But looking at it, we wonder if calling this Light armor is correct because it seems like we are adding more armor on top of what the G-Line already had on it. Since all these additions were supposed to improve the maneuverability of the G-Line, is it more appropriate to call it a high-mobility pack?
But then again, why does it matter if all this armor makes it look badass?
And yes, just like the HGUC G-Line Standard armor, the G-Line Light armor comes with the same gimmick: the armor parts can be detached easily. So, if you want to display it in that configuration, you can still achieve the barebones G-Line look with this kit.

But it also comes with all the same things that we get with the standard version, like the missile pods and shield. Speaking of weapons, we are a fan of the HGUC G-Line’s beam rifle’s redesigned look. Yes, they just added a ‘suppressor’ to it, but it makes it look much better than the one you get with the HGUG G-Line Standard version.
All in all, we are interested in getting this. Just like what we feel about getting the HGUC G-Line Standard, we might need to wait till P-Bandai relists this on their shopee page since we are too late for the party.
But hey, if we can’t wait, we can always wait till April to see how much the scalpers would set the price for the HGUC G-Line Light armor in shopee; pretty sure it ain’t gonna be cheap.
But would we give in to the pressure? Maybe not.

This concludes the 606th edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment. P-Bandai has been really busy lately. It is very unlike P-Bandai to keep churning out new releases after another in one month, and it’s even weirder to see them keep on announcing things that we are interested in getting. Seeing all of these awesome announcements excites us to see what more they have in store for us this year!
Anyways.
We’ll return to the upcoming segment this Saturday (hopefully, as long as Kimi’s health improves) with a new blog post! So, do look forward to that
