Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.609

Love is war

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 609th edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we’ll once again return to our P-Bandai Gunpla release announcements. But instead of talking about the two recently announced P-Bandai kits, we discuss the pending kit discussion we have been putting off for quite a while.

The kit we’re discussing today is a collaboration kit with one of Japan’s OG Virtual Idols, which we are sure everyone is familiar with.

So, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we?

This is something that we can see being used in combat

When we first saw this, we didn’t understand why they decided to use the old and now quite outdated RG Char’s Zaku II base for the Miku Hatsune collaboration, especially considering that Bandai just released the RG Gundam Ver.2.0, which we feel would make for a much better base kit for this collaboration.

Then we learned why they chose a Zaku II instead of a Gundam. Apparently, March 9th, the day they made this announcement, falls on the Zaku and Miku Day celebration. After learning that, it suddenly makes sense why they decided on a Zaku instead of a Gundam. However, it makes us wonder why we should not use the MG Ver.2.0 base instead. Wouldn’t that be a better option?

But then again, we don’t really know what is going on in the minds of the ones in Bandai. Maybe they have a good reason for using the RG base instead of the MG Ver.2.0.

Why are we so against Bandai using the RG Zaku II base?

a good looking but outdated

Well, to be honest? If you have worked on any RG Zaku IIs before (especially the Char variant), you will find this to be the same kit with a different color scheme. This also means it retains all the same problems as its original base kit. Our advice to those unfamiliar with the RG Zaku II and thinking of getting this version is to invest in good glue because there are a few sections you probably need to glue down.

But even with that said, we admit that the RG Zaku isn’t a bad kit; it has its issues, but it’s not like it’s that hard to deal with. Like we said, all you need is a good glue to fix it, and as soon as you do, the rest is just cake.

And yes, despite all its issues, the RG Zaku II is still a kit we recommend, though only for seasoned builders.

Still a fun one regardless of its issues

But despite our recommendations, we know many people would be interested in getting this.

Why?

Admittedly? It’s because this is a beautiful kit. We were surprised to see how well the iconic Miku color scheme fits with the RG Zaku II. It looked so good that it would make ‘non-fans of Miku Hatsune’ gunpla builders consider getting this just by its looks alone.

That is how good this kit looked.

The only downside to this is that we feel Bandai missed the opportunity to make one modification to this RG kit that would make this look more iconic—adding Miku’s hair braids on the Zaku head unit to make it look more Miku-ish. Well, not actual hair, but something that would make sense on the head unit.

But despite that little oversight by the P-Bandai side, they at least make it up by giving this kit a lot of awesome decal designs that make this look properly badass.

Despite being another recolored RG Zaku, it is still worth getting for Miku and RG Zaku fans. It looks good, and we wouldn’t mind getting it ourselves.

And we are sure we are not the only one that thinks this is a good-looking RG kit

Though we admit, it would be nice if they were to make an MG version of this, too.

This concludes the 609th edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment. As expected, P-Bandai again decided to drop something while we worked on something else.

We’re not complaining; we are glad that P-Bandai has been busy. It feels like things are slowly returning to normal despite all the insanity in the world, though it would be nice to see the retail side be as proactive as their P-Bandai side.

Anyways.

We’ll return to the upcoming segment next Thursday (hopefully, as long as Kimi’s health improves) with a new blog post! So, do look forward to that.
