Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.614

So will the GQuuuuuuX’s GM look like the Gelgoog?

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 614th edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we’ll discuss the Retail side’s latest Gunpla release announcements. With the Shizuoka Hobby Event just weeks away, we expected the retail side to keep some releases under wraps until their big unveiling.

So, imagine our surprise to see the Retail side announce two new kits a few days back. But what we are more surprised about this batch of retail release announcements is that for one of the Retail announcements we are going to be talking about, the kit is already released in Japan.

So, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we?

The GM that is a Gelgoog

Admittedly, we’re somewhat late to the party on this one. But we have a good reason for that because we have been having such a hectic schedule with some of us having some big family events (mostly having to host Eid open houses) and the fact that Kimi’s main workhorse PC has been giving us some issues, we find it hard to find the time to watch and discuss our thoughts on the GQuuuuuuX anime and talk about gunplas.

But just like every Gundam series out in the wild, we have been seeing different opinions, which to me is a great sign that the anime is something worth checking out.

But the same cannot be said about the Gunplas, because despite having a rough start, most gunpla builders that we know started to change their tune about the HGGQX series as soon as they worked on the HGGQX GQuuuuuuX. This is wild because we have seen people complaining about the series and at the same time talking about how much they love working on the HGGQX GQuuuuuuX kit.

But we can’t blame them because they are fun kits to work on. Yes, admittedly, we haven’t had the chance to work on the HGGQX GQuuuuuuX, but we did manage to get our hands on the second kit in this series: the HGGQX Military Police Zaku. We found that to be quite a fun experience, and after that experience, we started to feel a lot more excited to see what else the HGGQX line has to offer.

I had a lot of fun working on this Zaku

And it seems we don’t have to wait too long because Bandai just announced two new HGGQX kits, one already released in Japan (the one that we are talking about here), and another in June.

That is why we are starting this post with the one that has already been released in Japan today, the HGGQX Sugai’s Custom Gelgoog.

Honestly? When we saw the teaser trailers that had this MS in them, we thought that we would finally see the Federation’s MS in action. But then we remembered this series is based on an alternate universe where Zeon won the OYW, so, of course, Zeon’s version of the GMs would be named Gelgoogs.

Joking aside, we admit that even when we saw this in the trailers for the series floating around the interwebs, we were already very interested in getting the Gunpla version of this. Especially seeing all the cool action scenes involving the GM Colored Gelgoog in the trailers.

And we are sure a lot of people feel the same way, too, when they see this. Because, unlike the GQuuuuuuX’s Zaku and GQuuuuuuX, we didn’t really see a lot of people complaining about how the GQuuuuuuX’s Gelgoog looked. We instead see a lot of people talking about how awesome it looked in the two-color scheme that this MS debuted in.

The Gunpla also looks so good that we really didn’t see a lot of people have any thing bad to say about these

Yes, there are a lot of memes out there about people being confused with the naming scheme, but that isn’t a bad sign, we feel. Instead, we think that it’s good that it’s getting a lot of attention from fans of both the anime and Gunpla Builders.

So, how does the Gunpla version look for us then?

It is clear from looking at its promotional materials for the HGQX Gelgoog that they managed to nail the looks of the GQuuuuuuX Gelgoog in the Gunpla form here. With our experience building the Military Zaku, we can also already foresee this to be a kit with a decent color separation, and at the same time, we can see it not needing any color correction stickers as well.

Yes, we are confident that these will look great out of the box.

Especially when it can pull off cool poses like these

The other thing that we liked about this release is its articulation system. From what is seen in the promotional materials for this kit? You can pull off some very impressive poses with this kit. However, despite knowing that yes, we are confident that the HGGQX Gelgoog will be able to pull off all those badass poses, at the same time, we know from our experience building the HGQX Military Police Zaku that the joints will be a bit stiff when you first put them together. So, one does need to exercise caution when working on the limbs for the first time.

But all in all, we think that this is going to be a fantastic kit overall.

HG 1/144 gMS-01 Gelgoog (Borcata’s Custom unit) (HGGQX)

Release Date: June 2025
Estimated price: JPY 2,420 (MYR 72.96* / USD 16.95* / EUR 14.89*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation
looking at this makes me want to take a dip in a pool somewhere

Another thing that we are surprised about when seeing the new Retail news is that we are getting a recolored version of the HGGQX Gelgoog as a retail release.

Yes, for the first time in many years, talking about Gunplas, we are finally seeing the good old Bandai back here. I know Bandai does this every once in a while, but so far for the HGGQX series? We have not yet seen a single HGGQX P-Bandai kit to date,e and we hope they keep this up.

Why is this good, you ask?

Yes why?

This is good because we sincerely feel that every kit deserves a chance for a regular release. You never know how you would feel about the kit as time progresses, and as long as it gets the retail treatment, you know that there is a higher chance of seeing it getting reprinted compared to a kit that got the P-Bandai releases.

But enough yapping about that, let us now talk about what we think of this version of the HGGQX Gelgoog.

Well, to be honest? This is practically just the same thing that we get with Sugai’s version of the Gelgoog. When we say you get the same things, we do mean you do get the same bits. The only thing that sets it apart from Sugai’s version is the color scheme.

Different color scheme, but still cool

Which does look good if we are honest.

Funnily enough, some of us here liked the Borcata’s color scheme. Why? It’s because some of us feel that Borcata’s color scheme version of the Gelgoog embodies more of the GQuuuuuuX design spirit than what we see with the classic color scheme used in Sugai’s version.

But at the end of the day, no choice is a wrong choice in this case, because both of them will be fantastic kits, we feel.

All in all, we are quite happy to know that we are getting both kits as a regular retail release. If this Bandai keeps this up, I might just be a fan of this Gunpla lineup just because of that fact.

Glad to see this getting the retail treatment

This concludes the 614th edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment. We were surprised to see this announcement made in the middle of the start of May, especially when we heard nothing from the P-Bandai side. That is why we expected this week to be another quiet week.

Why are we making these assumptions, you ask?

Well, it’s because, in one more week, it will be the Shizuoka Hobby Show 2025 event already. So, normally, we’d see the retail side holding on to the new Gunpla announcement until the day before or during the event.

But even with that said, we are glad to have something to talk about, haha. And yes, we know that some of you may have noticed that we haven’t been posting anything since last Thursday. We had some issues with WordPress on that day, but we managed to resolve the issue, however, it took quite some time to deal with, which caused us not to have the time to really work on the new post.

Also, we might be implementing something new in this couple of weeks, so there will be some changes made, but worry not, it won’t affect how you guys read things in the blog.

Anyway, we will be back next Thursday with a new blog post! So we do look forward to seeing you guys then!

It would be a tremendous help to us all here in the blog if you guys were to leave a like on our posts and subscribe to the blog if you enjoy our gunpla/plamo-related posts. We would appreciate it if you guys showed your support by leaving an upvote on our R/Gunpla posts and a like on our Facebook and Instagram posts or pages!

We are also open to good and bad feedback, so feel free to write away.

Hopefully, by sharing our love and passion for building and writing about gunplas or other plamos here, this post will inspire all of you to pick up the hobby—or, better yet, reignite your love and passion for the hobby.

We shall see all of you again soon, and we hope all of you here have a splendid day and week ahead! Oh, before we go, please have an excellent time building your awesome gunplas there, and until next time.

Ciao!
