The black two stars
HELLO! We are back!
In today’s 615th edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we’ll discuss another one of the Retail side’s latest Gunpla release announcements. In a shocking move that nobody expected, we are getting another Gunpla release announcement for the HGGQX series!
We didn’t expect to see anything announced this week, considering that the Shizouka Hobby Show is a week away. But it seems like the retail side has been busy with the HGGQX lineup.
So, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we?
HG 1/144 MS-09R Rick Dom (Gaia/Ortega Custom) (HGGQX)

Release Date: September 2025
Estimated price: JPY 3,630 (MYR 107.58* / USD 25.40* / EUR 22.34*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

But despite what we said earlier, we admit that we are quite happy to see another new Gunpla release announcement from the retail side, because it reminds us of how Bandai used to be, and that is a good thing. We just hope that, seeing how successful this line and the anime is, it would convince Bandai to consider separating the Gunpla production and their other kit line, so we wouldn’t be going through this Gunpla shortage issue that is currently plaguing the hobby.
But enough about that, so what do we think of this release, you ask?
Well, to be honest? We here think that HGQX Rick Dom looked fantastic. In a move that no one expected, Bandai managed the impossible here and dropped another Banger for the HGGQX lineup. Well, for us anyway.
Looking at this and comparing this to its anime version, we can say for certain that Bandai nailed the look of the Gunpla version, and with our experience with the HGGQX Military Police Zaku, we know that it will also be a color-accurate kit.

Admittedly, we can’t say for sure if this is going to be good just yet since we haven’t had the actual thing on our hands, but with what we have experienced so far with the HGGQX Military Police Zaku, we are certain that we are looking at another badass kit from this lineup.
The only thing that we can say for certain here is that Bandai at least did a fantastic job translating this kit into Gunpla. We even did a comparison side-by-side to its anime counterpart to see if there are any issues with the looks, and we hardly see any issues with the Gunpla form (being color accurate, that is). From what we can see from its promotional materials, we can say that this version looks quite color-accurate to its anime counterpart.
Yes, we know that not everyone would be on board with the extra leg attached to its back, but the thing is, we have been getting safe, traditional Humanoid MS for a while. So, it’s refreshing to get wacky antagonist MS of the week designs again for the GQuuuuuuX series.

The only thing that we are a bit concerned about here is, unfortunately is the extra leg.. Why, you ask? Because we aren’t sure how well it would work.
Yes, we know that the extra leg works as a fully articulated extra leg and a backpack unit. The part that we are unsure of is what kind of hinge Bandai would use to sustain that heavy leg on (or even if it had a hinge to hold the extra leg in), and we do wonder if the extra leg of the HGGQX Rick Dom will make it back heavy. The reason why we are worried is that it reuses the same HGGQX Rick Dom leg unit here, so it does look quite thick and heavy, so we do worry if having something that big and heavy attached to its back would affect the stability of HGGQX Rick Dom.
Which does bring us to the next bit, the articulation and posing of the kit. We admit it is really exciting to finally get a kit like this. Because we do not know what to expect here, we know that it would be fun just playing around with all the different poses and seeing what insane things we can do with the HGGQX Rick Dom. Also, we admit that we are interested in seeing how everything works since we have never had a kit with three legs.

All in all, we are looking forward to getting this one come September, and we have a strong feeling this will be another awesome kit for the HGGQX series.
This concludes the 615th edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment. This announcement is one that we didn’t expect to see so close to the Shizouka Hobby Show. It does make us wonder if the retail side is preparing us for something here.
We do hope so! It has been quite a while since Bandai made us this excited to hear of new Gunpla releases! We really hope that we’ll get more MG and RG announcements this time around. We are aware that it is a big ask, considering how lazy Bandai has been recently. But seeing how proactive they are with the GQuuuuuuX releases gives us hope that we might see the old Bandai back in the saddle again.
Anyway, we will be back soon with a new blog post! So we do look forward to seeing you guys then!
