Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.616

PGU v Gundam unleashed!

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 616th edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla post, we’ll discuss one of the retail side’s latest Gunpla release announcements. Finally, the big day is here, and by jolly, we have a lot of fascinating Gunpla release announcements from both the retail side and the P-Bandai side to talk about.

As always, we shall try to cover as much of it as we can as we get more information about the releases.

But for today’s blog post, we will be talking about one of the biggest Gunpla release announcements that we have been waiting for quite a while now, and it is the one that we expected Bandai to reveal at the 63rd Shizuoka Hobby Show 2025 event.

So, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we?

The Perfect Grade of our dreams is finally here

Finally, Bandai did it, they finally gave us the PG Version of the v Gundam! We admit that we have given up the idea of seeing new PG releases after seeing no new PGU projects announced after the release of the PGU Gundam. So, one can’t be blamed if they start to believe that Bandai has already moved on with the PG line. So imagine our surprise when they finally made that April Fools joke a reality.

But enough yapping about that, let us now talk about what Bandai revealed to us all in the PGU v Gundam’s press release.

The first thing we noticed, besides its badass look, is the release date. We are honestly quite taken aback that Bandai decided to release this in January of next year.

It really makes you wonder why release this in January of next year?

Why wouldn’t we be? First of all, we are still in the 2nd quarter of the year, and usually when you announce a kit in this state, it would take more than 2 or 3 months for it to be released.

But then we decided to properly go through the PGU v Gundam’s press release, and then we realized why; they needed more time to complete it. How do we know this? Well, because you can see from the press release that there is something that is missing, the details on the PGU v Gundam’s inner-frame system.

We figured that they might still be working on that, and we admit that we were looking forward to seeing that the most when this was announced, since we wanted to see if Bandai would recreate what they did with the Metal Structure on this PGU kit. But maybe they needed more time to get it to work properly? Or maybe they wanted to add more new things? God knows, but we hope that we get to learn more about this in the coming months.

the coolest pose
This looks so good that I hope that they will get everything right come release day

But admittedly, the things that they did in this showcase is quite exciting, for one the two new gimmicks: the support arm that is attached to the PGU v Gundam’s backpack unit, which we admit is cool, and the fact that you can teardown of the PGU v Gundam’s beam rifle like a proper working rifle, which admittedly is even cooler. Admittedly, the beam Rifle teardown gimmick is not new, since we have seen this done with the Metal Structure v Gundam. But it is nice that we don’t have to spend MYR 15K to experience that.

But the thing that got us with this release is the looks.

admittedly we would love to see how this works

Admittedly, coming in, we expected to see the same aggressive design that we see on the Metal Structure v Gundam to be replicated here. But instead, we got a much more toned-down version of it.

But it’s not like it’s a bad thing, because despite the toned-down look, it is still a beautiful kit. Even though we are a fan of the Metal Structure looks, we admit that we prefer the more toned-down look of the PGU v Gundam, somehow we felt like the design of the PGU v Gundam looked more premium than the Metal Structure’s.

This is still one beautiful kit, regardless

Maybe that old adage of having less is more does work wonders on the PGU v Gundam’s design here.

But the best part of this news is that this badass piece of plastic monster will be released in January 2026. Yes, we know that we just ranted about this earlier. But at the same time, we also admit that it is a blessing in disguise.

Why? Well, that means we have a lot of time to save up to finally get the PGU v Gundam.

This concludes the 616th edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment. What a great start to the week this is, but better yet, we still have a lot to cover here, worry not, because we will return soon to talk about our 3 favorite kits from the Shizuoka Hobby Show!

Anyway, we will be back soon with a new blog post! So we do look forward to seeing you guys then!
