Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.624

Part 2? A HGGQX Edition.

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 624th edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we’ll continue where we left off with the retail release discussions on the rest of the ‘new’ announcements that we didn’t cover in the last blog post.

But once again, we’ll pick the two HGGQX releases that were made on that day and we’ll finish up the rest in another post.

So, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we?

The white demon that requires some extra finishing touches

To be honest? After seeing some Gunpla content creators unbox the Red Gundam, our excitement for this has somewhat been tempered. Seeing the amount of work one needs to put into the Red Gundam to make it look exactly like its anime appearance (or even its box art) is massive.

And it makes us feel like the upcoming HGGQX White Gundam feels like another massive undertaking.

Why wouldn’t we be discouraged? When we saw some of the reviews and previews revealed to us that there were a lot of sections on the HGGQX Red Gundam that needed to be painted, especially on the Funnels. The worst part? It doesn’t even come with color-correction stickers for those unpainted sections.

That is one cool-looking Hyper Bazooka

Admittedly, this isn’t a huge problem for veteran builders, since we can always take our time to repaint these sections. What’s more, the color correction stickers normally look horrible. But it’s not a good thing for newbies? Seeing how empty the unpainted bits look might discourage them from ever picking up another kit. Especially if they are those who were inspired to pick up the Nippers after watching the anime.

So you can imagine how one would feel about this kit now after seeing the upcoming HGGQX White Gundam. We imagine that this will come with the same issues, too.

Fortunately, we don’t think it’s going to be as bad since this version doesn’t come with two big Funnels. So, less work.

A lot of work, yes, but you’ll end up with something badass

But for the main kit? We still imagine that we might need to apply paint in some sections, for instance, the yellow part on the manipulators, the main camera on the head unit, and the mounting points. But the rest we reckon might still be possible that they will come out right, but how color correct remains to be seen.

But at the very least, we know that despite that, it’ll still be a decent kit, since one of us did find the HGGQX Red Gundam to be a joy to build regardless of the issues, so he doesn’t mind getting the HGQX White Gundam. But for us, we might consider picking this one up after we work on the HGGQX Red Gundam and have a clearer idea of how much work we need to put in for the HGGQX White Gundam ourselves.

HG 1/144 MS-06S Zaku Char Aznable Custom (HGGQX)

HG 1/144 MS-06S Zaku Char’s Aznable Custom (HGGQX)
Release Date: November 2025
Estimated price: JPY 2,420 (MYR 71.02* / USD 16.82* / EUR 14.35*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation
Chonky Red Comet

We honestly weren’t sure if we wanted to talk about this one since we already covered the standard version, especially considering that they are practically the same kit.

But since we are doing a short and sweet post, and also, since we are a fan of any Char-related kit. We felt that we didn’t mind revisiting this one.

First, let us get something out of the bag. From what we can see, it is clear that this is a slightly modified and recolored version of the previously released HGGQX Military Police Zaku. The only difference between this and the upcoming HGGQX Char’s Zaku (and the standard version) is that it comes with a new shoulder armor, a new decal set, and a cool, redesigned iconic Zaku weapon set.

Plus, despite what some people say about this, we do think that this is still a good-looking kit. So, we imagine, it is one that we are sure people wouldn’t mind buying, especially those who have worked on the HGGQX Military Police Zaku.

And you do get a lot of stuff here too

That would include us, because man, we really wouldn’t get another one.

The only thing that we are bothered by in this release is the lack of visual difference (besides the horns and the colors) between this and the standard variant.

The reason why we brought this up is that Bandai has been really good in showing us recently in some of Char’s Zaku redesigns from other Gundam spin-offs, why the S Models are reserved for commanders and ace pilots.

We are a bit disappointed that the design of the GQX version of Char’s Zaku doesn’t receive the same thoughtful treatment. While we appreciate that they are trying to pay homage to the 1973 TV anime series, we would prefer a more innovative approach for the HGGQX Char’s Custom design. It would be great to see elements that demonstrate why this is a true performance custom machine, rather than relying solely on the reasoning that Char’s machine is simply red.

But still

But at the end of the day, it’s still a cool-looking kit, and one that we wouldn’t mind adding to our ever-growing Zaku variant collection.

This concludes the 624th edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment. Another short segment, but there are now three more kits left to talk about. However, we might take a slight detour in the next upcoming post because we have just learned that P-Bandai has recently dropped a new announcement.

And it is one that we have a lot of opinions over.

Anyway, we will be back soon with a new blog post! So we do look forward to seeing you guys then!

Also, you might have noticed a slight change to our posts, which is because we recently added a donation tab to our posts to help keep this site running and to fund our future projects. However, we want to clarify that we will not be placing any of our content behind a paywall. All of our content will remain free for everyone to access.

The reason why we decided to add the donation tab is that after managing this blog with our funds for so long, we’ve found that even with ads, it hasn’t been enough to maintain the site without putting ourselves in debt. We have tried our best not to resort to this, since we are doing this blog for fun, and we really didn’t plan to earn money from doing this.

However, since the start of the year, we have been struggling financially to keep this site running, and we refuse to give up on it after putting so much work into it.

So that is why, for the first time after running this site for so long, we are finally asking for help from you, our readers.

If you appreciate what we do and want us to continue providing this content, we would greatly appreciate any support through donations to help keep us afloat.
