Why is there an EVA in my Gundam?

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 627th edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we’ll finally move on to cover the retail side’s latest Gunpla release announcement! The one that we specifically wanted to cover today is one that Bandai made the following week after the Hobby New Item Next mini event.

So, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we?

HG 1/144 gMS-k GFreD (HGGQX)

Release Date: November 2025

Even though we haven’t watched any of the episodes of the recently concluded GQuuuuuuX anime, we can already tell from the MS design alone that there is some very heavy REBUILD of Evangelion influence in the MS designs in this anime. Granted, we shouldn’t be all that surprised, considering that the GQuuuuuuX is a collaboration project between Khara Studios (the same people who made Evangelion and the Eva REBUILD series) and Sunrise. Thankfully, despite that, we are glad to see that, despite its Eva-like MS designs, it wasn’t that obvious for some of the later redesigns.

However, for this new ‘Gundam,’ we reckon Sunrise and Bandai let the Khara chaps run wild with the design. Because, despite its very lame name, this is the first time we get a Gundam designed that looks like a descaled version of the EVA-01 with an EVA-02 head. Goddamit, we finally have an EVA01 in a Gundam anime.

But all joking aside, we admit that we do think that the HGGQX GFreD is one of the best-looking HGGQX releases to date. Yes, it may be just a recolored version of the HGGQX GQuuuuuuX kit, but it is one of the best recolored HGGQX kits that we’ve gotten so far. Honestly? We would be lying if we were to say that this is something that we are not interested in getting.

I mean we cannot imagine anyone would shy away from getting something that looked this good.

So, yes, this is a recolored HGGQuuuuuuX with a different head unit, which also had some really cool fin funnels attached to it. The best part about this release is that the HGGQX GFreD also comes with another head unit, so you can recreate the GFreD head unit opening reveal scene.

However, even with that said, the rest is relatively the same as the HGGQX GQuuuuuuX kit, so we don’t expect the building experience of the HGGQX GFreD to differ significantly from the HGGQX GQuuuuuuX.

But even with that said, we are still keen on getting this because we like how this Eva looked.

This concludes the 627th edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment. Although it is basically just a recolored HGGQX GQuuuuuuX, it is nice to know that this is still getting the retail treatment instead of a P-Bandai one. Now it is time for us to make the leap and subscribe to Prime Video for one month so we can just binge on the GQuuuuuuX series.
