The Emperor’s new expensive sword.

HELLO!

We are back again this week with the 93rd edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment! This week, we are back covering more P-Bandai news (again I know), however, this week we only have one singular MG release to cover today. Which, I have to say, is really quite interesting to see and talk about if we were, to be frank…

Not to mention, at the same time, this particular announcement manages to piss a lot of people off.

So, without further ado, let us get into it, shall we?

MG 1/100 XXXG-010S Shenlong Gundam (w/ Liaoya weapon system)

The emperor’s new sword. Well, a new expensive sword to say the least.

When we heard and saw this release announcement by P-Bandai, we were honestly quite disturbed by it. However, by now we weren’t that surprised by the announcement of this version since P-Bandai is known to pull off this kind of things before.

Plus we can sort of understand why a lot of people are quite upset when they see the release announcement for this particular kit and how we think that this isn’t really the best way for P-Bandai to approach this particular ‘upgrade’.

But we get to that, let us first take a look at the kit itself.

Yes, let us now talk about this going to be quite expensive MG kit

From the outset, we can see that there isn’t really a lot of difference between this and the normal MG Shenlong that we get back in 2011. There aren’t any new modifications or sections that were made on the MS that we can see here, although there is some small new addition made here, like new decals and an addition of an action base together with the kit. But there is one thing that added here which kind of really sets this version apart from the normal version of the MG Shenlong…

The Liaoya sword unit…the badass looking sword that was seen in the Glory of the Losers manga.

Seriously the Liaoya sword looks badass, so badass in fact that it made us understand why there are people that might like this MS. The Liaoya is a huge, impractical and like most weapons that are wielded by the MS’s in the Wing Gundam series, the Liaoya sword looks really good. Not to mention it since it got a bit of Katoki Hajime touch to it, it kind of explains why the weapon looks really badass.

apparently, it’s just not the sword that was designed by Katoki Hajime, it was as well said that the whole line up of the MG Wing Gundam EW was redesigned for the MG line up by him.

However, as we all looked at this, we can’t help to wonder why P-Bandai feels the need to re-release a whole MG Shenlong for….this upgrade? Granted there are more things that come with the kit but still why give this a full release?

Because like some of the parts releases that we’ve seen P-Bandai made recently, we can’t help to think that they could’ve just had MG Shenlong Liaoya version to be released together with Liaoya sword expansion parts for the standard MG Shenlong Gundam. Like seriously, there isn’t really anything major that we can see on the MG Shenlong Liaoya. Like seriously there is no color difference with the original, no extra backpack or arm unit that comes with the kit. The MG Shenlong Liaoya is just basically the same bog standard Shenlong that comes with an action base, decals, and the Liaoya sword.

A badass looking kit but is it worth getting?

So the question here, why do they feel the need to release this a full MG release? I know that they might want to appeal to those that haven’t bought the kit yet, and may want to incentify them by marketing this as the ‘complete’ version of the MG Shenlong. But we all know by now on how expensive and hard for one to get if this is the version that they decided to go for.

Not to mention that they could’ve as well released a standalone MG Liaoya expansion part set for those that have OWNED the MG kit.

Even with that said, since all of us here haven’t really gotten the kit yet, due to our disinterest of the MG Shenlong Gundam. We honestly aren’t sure if we would be that enticed by the Liaoya sword enough to get this, since from what we have seen here so far that we know that this is going to be one expensive MG kit with not to mention with little encouragement to get it. Even for the mega fans, we are sure that they as well would find themselves having quite a time trying justifying the need of getting this.

Yes, it looks badass and all, but why isn’t there just an expansion set for the new upgrades?

As bad as some of the kits P-Bandai has announced over the years were, at the very least there is still some appeal in getting them. but the MG Shenlong Liaoya though, this is one of those P-Bandai MG kits that we can really say, we aren’t interested at all to get.

Maybe if they have plans to just release the expansion parts only for the Shenlong we might be interested in getting it but knowing P-Bandai…..well we don’t think we would be seeing that happening by now.

Which is quite a shame really…

With that ends our 93rd edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment! What do you think of this week’s P-Bandai announcement? Are you excited about the prospect of this kit being finally being materialized? or are you like the rest of us, disappointed with the fact that we are seeing this being released as a Premium full release? Seriously, in this past couple of weeks, we have been hearing some pretty disappointing news from both the P-Bandai side and the retail side but it does seem like things might be looking up to us soon…in which we will be talking about further in next weeks Let’s Talk Gunpla segment!

Honestly though? We do look forward to talking about something positive for once…
