Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.197

It has been quite awhile since we had different opinions on a reveal

Hello! We are back!

In today’s 197th edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we will be taking a closer look at one of the reveals that was made yesterday concerning an MG Ver.K.A kit.

An MG Ver.K.A reveal that we all here had quite a time discussing.

We are sure that by now most of you here had an idea of what we are talking about here.

So, without further ado, let us now get into it, shall we?

The Rumor Mill: MG 1/100 XXXG-00W0 Wing Gundam Zero EW.Version Ver.K.A (MG)

Release Date: November 2020

Estimated price: JPY 6,050 (MYR RM 244.66* / USD $ 56.24* / EUR € 50.56*)

*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

When this kit was revealed yesterday, we all here were caught surprised by Bandai’s announcement of this kit.

Why wouldn’t we be?

We all here thought that Bandai would adhere to the poll that they made back in 2017 and finally gave us the MG G-Self Ver.K.A to us. But it seems to us all here that both Katoki Hajime and Bandai has some other ideas instead.

Funnily enough, the announcement of this kit manages to split the editorial team into two camps, one camp is comprised of those disappointed of the news and another happy that we finally would be getting an updated MG Wing Gundam Zero EW Version.

What makes this interesting is that both sides have some very compelling reasons for feeling as such.

First, let us talk on the side of those of us here that are quite excited about the reveal.

Yes, admittedly it is nice to know that we are finally getting an update to the MG Wing Zero EW. To learn that they are going to be releasing this with some improvements made to its joints, not to mention they are as planning to make this kit transform, does make us quite excited to see how the new updates made to the MG Wing Gundam Zero EW Ver.K.A would work in real life. Especially for its Wing unit.

Not to mention, it is good news to fans of the Wing Zero, that has been waiting for 16 years for an update to their beloved MS for the MG line up.

Now, let us talk on the side of those that was unhappy with the new Ver.K.A reveal.

The very first thing that came to our minds when we saw this reveal was; “Oh great, its another Wing Zero kit”. This was a revelation that we here find to be as unexciting as all the Astray and Grandpa rumors that have been floating about, which is why we don’t usually talk about it. Well, that is unless if the release is interesting, then we probably talk about it here.

Regardless, we do feel like they shouldn’t be teasing us like that in the first place, making us all speculate over the next exciting new and unseen MS designs releasing as a Ver.K.A kit. Only to be disappointed to see that it is just another variant of the same design.

Speaking of the design, when we saw the reveal and read through the press release for it. Somehow rather we have a feeling that this kit would share alot of the same gimmicks that we see with the MG Proto Zero and the MG Wing Ver.K.A. Not to mention, with the stories that we’ve heard of how flimsy the HiRM Wing Zero kits were, kind of lowered our expectations for it even more.

Looking at it made us feel like they should’ve just released something else instead.

That is why we said at the start of this, that this particular MG Ver.K.A reveal was one that we had quite a time discussing. Regardless, which side you are on the reveal we here do think that both sides have very compelling reasons to be excited or disappointed with the release.

We here do generally be looking forward to the day that we get to see the actual promotional pictures for this MG kit and the actual MG kit itself to finally determine if this was worth the excitement or pain for one to get.

With that concludes today’s 197th edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment! What do you think of this MG Ver.K.A reveal? Are you looking forward to this particular MG Ver.K.A kit? It has been quite a while since we here had quite a discussion about a reveal of a kit like this.

Quite frankly, we had alot of fun talking about this kit. Although it did take quite a while to come to a consensus and convert our thoughts into writing like this, haha.

Which does make us excited to have these discussions again when we finally get to see the actual kit in action.

Anyways, we will be back again with more new gunpla related posts next week, starting on Monday! So do look forward to that!

  1. Initially disappointed but got over it and now looking forward. Common complaint I’ve seen with gunpla hobbyist is always wanting an update to old kits. This is it. The HiRM is too pricey, bits fall off and rubs people wrong way with its figure inner frame. The 1/60 PG is old as hell with many problems. The RG version doesn’t appeal to many. The Wing Ver Ka isn’t the Zero with its own age starting to show. The Metal Fix are figures and out of people’s price range. Finally we have this new Ver Ka at about $60 USD with all the improvements one would hope reported to have. This opens door to any P-Bandai variants or adds on now though so can’t say didn’t see it coming.

    1. That is a very interesting prespective, which does help to add into the conversation that we had here as a team.

To be fair even though some o us here aren’t all that excited for this kit, but admittedly we all here do appreciate the fact that Bandai finally gave us an update to the MG wing zero.

The only thing that we here do agree on here is the fact they should’ve just gave an outline instead of just a tease like they did. If they were to be doing that, I think there would prolly be less people that would be mad with the release.

Anways, thanks for sharing your opinions with us! 😀

  2. I voted for the MG G-Self Ver.ka. I really see no point to a voter poll anymore if Bandai isn’t going to honor the winning design. Sometime I feel like they have simians making business decisions. That being said I am lookig forward to the PG RX-78-2 Ver 2.0 as the original PG looks like a toy. I hope they use the MG RX-78-2 Ver 3.0 proportions, its looks but the head of the MG RX-78-2 Ver 2.0 (best head sculpt so far).

    1. That was the same sentiment that some of us here had when we all saw the reveal

Its like might as well just tell us that you would just do whatever you want, like how they always done before.

But test we are REALLY excited to see how the new PG Gramps would look like. I really hope that they would go for something that is completely original instead.

  3. Just to be pedantic, the line is called ver.Ka(Katoki) not K.A.

This decision is very middle of the road, like most of Bandai’s more recent retail releases. With what seems to be dwindling shelf space in stores, it would be risky to release something unproven and lose out on guaranteed money.

I just wish that instead of WGZ it could have been RX-78-2 which deserves a 2.0 more.

    1. Aahh, thanks for the clarification, will make sure to remember that as we move forward!

True, it is going to be quite risky for them to try make the MG G-Self into Ver.Ka but then again they could go with any other designs besides the MG G-Self.

plus if they were to just give us the dark lay out of the kit as the tease like they did with the FAZZ I don’t think most people would be that bothered.
