Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.228

P-Bandai, how can you do this to our hearts

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 228th edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we will again be taking a look at two very recent P-Bandai release announcements. Well, to be more precise, we will be taking a look at two P-Bandai HGAC announcement that managed to both excite and piss us off. Well, mostly piss us off.

Regardless, it’s a feat (of pissing us off) that P-Bandai never fails to deliver.

So, without further ado, let us get into it, shall we?

HG 1/144 XXXG-01SB Gundam Sandrock Custom (HGAC)

Estimated price: JPY 1,650 (MYR RM 64.69* / USD $ 15.54* / EUR € 13.13*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Let us first start with the P-Bandai announcement that managed to piss us off the most.

When we all here saw the retail announcement of the HGAC Sandrock for the first time, we wondered why they didn’t include in the Sandrock signature Beam Machine Gun in together with the release.

Now, we finally figured out why, because they have planned from the start to have this released as a P-Bandai release.

Which we do admit seeing that managed to pisses us the hell off because from what we can see here, we believed that they could’ve just included all of the ‘new’ things that they included in with the P-Bandai release in the earlier retail release.

But what pisses us off the most is the fact that this isn’t some unique MS design from the novel, side story or manga. This version of the Sandrock was in the main anime, and it is an MS that was piloted by one of the main protagonists in the anime series. Which makes us wonder why do P-Bandai thinks that this version of the Sandrock deserves to get the P-Bandai treatment, and not a retail one?

So, regardless of that little fact, what do we think of this particular P-Bandai HGAC release? Well, judging from what we can see through the P-Bandai HGAC Sandrock Custom’s promotional picture, this is technically just the same HGAC Sandrock kit with some changes and additions made to it.

What changes and additions that we are talking about here?

Well, firstly, the changes that we could see done quite clearly here would be on the P-Bandai HGAC Sandrock’s new backpack unit and as well changes made to the back of HGAC Sandrock’s waist armor.

Secondly and coincidentally as well the last bit that we wanted to cover here, the addition that made it to the P-Bandai’s HGAC Sandrock Custom, the Sandrock Gundam’s signature Beam Machine Gun.

Admittedly all these changes and additions made here do make us want to get the P-Bandai HGAC Sandrock, and we do feel like this is the version to go for if you’re a fan of the Sandrock Gundam.

But even with that said, we still find ourselves to be quite disturbed with the fact that P-Bandai is releasing this version instead.

HG 1/144 OZ-13MSX1 Vayeate & OZ-13MSX2 Mercurius (HGAC)

Release Date: January 2021
Estimated price: JPY 4,180 (MYR RM 163.89* / USD $ 39.36* / EUR € 33.26*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Next on the list, it’s a P-Bandai announcement that managed to both excite and piss us off.

Why does it excite us? Well, that is because most of us here are HUGE fans of these MS designs, and ever since Kimi built (and reviewed) the No-Grade Vayeate a few months back, we have been wondering if Bandai has plans to do a modern rendition of this badass Wing Gundam MS designs.

So understandably, we were excited to see the two of this badass MS’s finally getting the modernization that it needed.

So you might wonder, why seeing this P-Bandai announcement pisses us off then? Well, that is because it’s a P-Bandai announcement, that’s why.

Regardless, let us talk more about this, and focus on what we here think about it after going through its promotional materials.

After spending time looking at all the HGAC Vayeate and Mercurius promotional materials, we do have to admit that P-Bandai did a damn good job designing the both of them. Both the HGAC Vayeate and Mercurius looked insanely detailed, and not to mention quite color accurate as well.

Admittedly, even though there are a few sections on the kit that looked like it may need us to whip up our painting skills, but overall the parts on the HGAC Vayeate and Mercurius looked good.

However, the looks aren’t the only thing that they got right here because, from the looks of it, they as well managed to get the gimmicks for both of them right. They finally managed to make the Vayeate’s Beam Cannon poseable while it’s attached to its mounting. That is awesome! Because now there are no more restrictions that would hinder us from posing our Vayeates. Even the new and improved gimmicks on the Mercurius looked awesome.

But best of all is the fact that they bundle the two of them together as one single HGAC release. That is something that we here do appreciate P-Bandai for doing because by doing that, it does make life slightly a bit easier for fans of these two MS designs, to get.

But even with that said, it still doesn’t mean that we’re happy to see this getting that P-Bandai treatment.

Honestly, all of these kits that we talked about here should’ve just been a retail release. We really can’t fathom why are these releases are getting that P-Bandai release.

Anyways, that concludes our 228th edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment. It has been quite a while that we’ve seen P-Bandai announcements that managed to both excite us and piss us off all at the same time. But admittedly, we are still looking forward to getting either of them when they see release next year.

Yes, we are mad at P-Bandai for doing this. But at the very least, we are getting the kit that we want.

But at what cost?

Probably of our sanity, our hearts, and our goddamn wallets.
